Hi, I have some early work to do on MITM and need some input from the membership of M/A.

If you are planning to attend or even if you are not or cannot, we (MINI5280) needs some thoughts.

At Snowmass, Colorado we have real opportunities for a MINI controlled car event doing a Technical AutoX or a lapping style event at a small local track.

Snowmass is the home to Woody Creek, it is a nice little track, 1.2 miles or a bit less, with a number of turns and some modest elevation. A lapping event might be held at MITM 2015 but it depends on cost factors and interest.

    1. To use the track we need to gauge interest, cost and look at all the legal and insurance options. This track will have to have an attended ambulance for the duration.

    2. The AutoX would be technical, not real high speed and in a confined but safe parking lot on the Snowmass properties. Think accleration, stopping, MINI handling style with pylons. Timing and trophies for classes, etc.

The AutoX event would possibly cost $45/$50 per MINI entered for each driver, shared MINIs would allowed but each driver must register and pay!

    So.....

If we can get the track for a day, would people come, would you pay $100 or $150 for lapping. We need to get a minimum of 25 MINI folks to even attempt this activity.

It would be a safe and controlled environment, up to 4 MINIs lapping in each session, rules for limited passing TBD.

Time on track would be based on number of participants. We have not set a maximum number of participants but to get the best amount of track time we would have to set a limit (first come first served at registration).

The AutoX would be small and technical, timed and a test of driving skill. We will try to work with one of the AutoX groups in Colorado, but we may have to roll our own.

So, what would you pay and what would you like to participate in for a day?

Remember this uses up one of your days at MITM.

Event would probably run from 8:30 to 3/4pm for maximum fun.

At this time, this is all pie in the sky, but we will be doing something!

Thank you for you comments and time.

I appreciate quality comments, we want to entertain you at MITM, if we can.

    Thank you, Don MITM Planning

P.S this will only be posted here and on FB for a few weeks, then I will post something over on NAM, if response is sparse.

Are you coming to MITM Nathan? I think it would be great if you did! :D

Don, not too sure how much abuse I want to put the donor motor through (I am even weary of putting on a 15% pulley) but if I where to choose one it would also be the track day. :)

I attended in 2010 and plan on returning whether it will be next summer or not I don't yet know but track time would always be my choice.

Thanks to the 3 who have posted a comment, looking for more, are you a track MINI person or an AutoX person.

Remember this is for MITM 2015 in Snowmass, looking for input before we spend 5 to 8K on a race event or go with a simple AutoX.

I've missed the last 2 MITMs, but for Aspen/Snowmass I think I could be persuaded to come!

My choice would be track, I used to run that track back when I lived in Colorado Springs and Denver, it's a fun little "go kart" track!

I also am not a big AutoX fan.....

Will keep this thread active when we get farther along in planning and in the final selection of this event, I am hoping it will be the track day, we shall see what other folks lean towards.

Take care, have a great winter and I hope folks get to drive your MINIs.

I won't be able to make it but if I could I would rather drive on a track then drive around cones in a parking lot.

Track day...I'd love to come out, but as it stands right now, I'm not sure if I am looking at a new water pump or a new supercharger...or if my leak is merely a thermostat. Still, there is the distance thing and my car has over 100k miles. Also, I know of no one who would drive out with me and if something on my S goes bad, I'll most likely be found dead somewhere along I-70 west. On the bright side, my sister just moved into a new house in Denver and her kids live there, too...so I guess I'd have lodging.

MITM this year is about 4-5 hours outside of the Denver area. I have got to go up and scout campsites this summer, ones that are lowered MINI accessible.

As you folks know, MITM registration is open and special room rates for the event are available.

Today our Track contract is going final, so we are go officially.

I am looking for a few folks to help out at the Friday track event, help with grid control, make sure drivers are buckled up, MINIs are clear of loose objects etc.

Come out and enjoy, meet a whole bunch of folks. Track lapping entries are limited to 40 MINIs. I think we have 10 early sign ups.

Come out and play, this will be lapping with controlled passing. A,B will be the medium to fast folks, C,D will be the slower folks and new folks. We will have instructors at the track and ride alongs.

    Don
