Since I am now MINI-less once again, I decided to suck up to the community by 3D printing something as a peace offering for screwing up all of the drives I'll be joining in my Subaru WRX. I got into 3D printing in 2016, and decided I would like to try to make something Dragon-related for the event. Discussed with Snooter, and he liked my idea. It would cost me a bit much to try to make 1,000-1,200 of these for all of the schwag bags, so I decided I could make a couple of hundred and put them on the registration tables as enticements for food bank donations. Full disclosure: my cost is around 18-20 cents for the plastic, plus electricity to run the printer. So figure a quarter each, maybe. I figure they'd warrant dropping a dollar into the food bank coffers, right? Being 3D printed, they aren't tough as nails. But I gave one to my favorite bartender & she used it successfully for 3 shifts before it mysteriously "disappeared" on her. I have 6 color combos done, another printing now, and several more planned. I don't have every color under the rainbow, but I am interested to know if anyone has specific color combos they'd like to see. Colors I already have are easier to accommodate, but if there is significant interest in a specific color I don't have, I will consider ordering that filament. Colors I currently have available: Black, White, Grey/Silver, Bright Green, Bright Yellow, Pink, Dark Purple, Dark Blue, Red, Orange, Sage Green(Think military). I also have small amounts of silver glitter flake and a color changing filament that's slate blue at room temperature & turns white closer to body temp. Might use those for the decoration on top of one or two runs. (I make them a dozen at a time) List of color combos I have printed and/or plan to print: Already printed: Green/White Blue/White Blue/Yellow Blue/Glitter Flake Black/White Black/Yellow Black/Red (Translucent) Black/Red (Solid) Yellow/Black Yellow/Green Purple/White Purple/Glitter Flake Grey/Glow in the dark Grey/Pink Pink/White Orange/Blue Red/Black Red/White White/Blue White/Red -------------------------------- Yet to print: White/Black White/Green Red/Yellow Black/Color change (Slate Blue to White, temp sensitive) Black/Grey Green/Yellow Grey/Black Grey/Red Yellow/Blue Purple/Yellow Sage/Black ***You have to supply your own penny to make it work: Had a bit of a time the last 2 weeks of February with printer not behaving properly. A mod or 2 and a few tweaks later, and I hope to ramp up production in time to fill the box. Each slot contains 12 pieces, which is 1 "production run" on the print bed of my machine. A run of 12 takes about 8.5 hours to complete.
If these are available at MOTD, do we get to pick out our own, or do we have to just hope the one we like are in our swag bag? :confused5:
As mentioned in the post, I cannot make enough for schwag bags, so they will be on the Registration Table, asking for Food Bank donations if you take one. Donations are voluntary, but appreciated. Hoping to have 200-300 available, but only a dozen of each color combo.
Doesn't sound like there will be enough for Swag Bags, Jeff. Looks like they'll be on my table as one of the thank you items for donating to the food bank.
Then, that's fine with me. I'll try to get there early enough to snag one then [hopefully in a color combo I like].
If you care to share your color combo preferences, and others do the same, I might consider more than a single dozen of any one combo, just to make sure they last a while. :cornut:
Personally, I'd like green with a white dragon [or vice versa], but I'd also like black with an orange dragon [or vice versa]. :ihih:
Actually, I DO know the difference, but there are a lot of participants at the Cigar Salon who never seem to have a church key at the event and they will want to use MY dragon-inspired bottle opener along with my cutter. :devil:
BUMP. Updated available color list (Added Red, Sage Green). Also updated color combos list to show combos already printed, and combos planned. If you want to see a combo I haven't listed, make sure to post it up!!! Only making 12 of each combo, 30 combos total.
Slightly unhappy with both the red & white filaments I have on hand. My usual brand was unavailable in those colors when I was ordering filament, and the brands I chose as alternates just don't behave as expected. The white doesn't extrude evenly, and the red seems to be a little clumpy/oozy. Trying to alter print settings to improve things, but I have now ordered my usual filament in red & white. If I have time to re-do any of the red/whites that I'm not happy with, I will. They're not horrible, just not as good as the rest. We'll see.
