When I am at WOT near the redline running through the gears the car smells like burning rubber. Its was so bad when I past my son on a back road he could smell it from his car. So here is what I did I changed the belt, idler pulley, belt tensioner and installed a ATI crank pulley. Also I removed the silicone SC boots and went back to stock.

    This is for you Dave.

It is much better but still there. I have a 17% pulley I wander if I need a smaller belt. The one I have I got from Detroit Tuned when I ordered the ATI pulley. It should be for the 15/17 SC pulleys. Heres a picture of the tensioner it looks like it has the slack taken up.

    Any thoughts?

Unrelated. I tried zip tying my BP valve closed it went in to limp mode. I did not think it would do this. I was just trying to get rid on the lag.

Yay you set ALTA boots on fire !:lol:

It looks like you need a smaller belt for sure. When I put a new belt on I can always see one complete hole and a little of the second hole in the tensioner when it's released. You know the holes were you put the pin to release the belt.

On my 15% pulley I use a Gates K060535 Belt.

For a 17% pulley you should use Gates K060532 belt.

Yup already in the car with your info to pass on to Eric @Helix.

FYI I confirmed the correct 17% belt number with Colin.

Here's how to REALLY make your car stink:

Make sure the O-Ring on the oil filter housing split (the more pieces it splits into the better) right after dumping 4.7 L of Redline 10-40W. Turn the car on, back it off your lift so you can get the oil everywhere, then watch in amazement as oil gets in every nook and cranny, and every conceivable pipe in your engine bay (the hotter the pipe, the more oil that gets on it. It's Murphy's Redline Law.).

The cool thing is not only do you waste 50 bucks in oil and get to do it all over again, but you get the added bonus of that wonderful smell of burning oil in your cabin for at least the next month. I say "at least", because one month later, that beautiful aroma still lingers...

I mean, seriously, if you're going to make your car smell, ditch the girly-man silicone tubing and do it right...

I will pick up the belt when I get home Friday. I've been getting 14.5 psi it plateaus there at around 4 or 5 grand. Thet may be because the belt is slipping. If I had it to do agin I believe I would just get a 15% pulley.
    Thanks

Should have sold the old boots on NAM...lol...
But I bet it felt good to cook them!!
532 is the right length for a 17%...will be very tight...you MIGHT need somebody to hang onto the belt tensioner tool to get every last MM squeezed out of the tensioner beyond the pinned position....so you can thread the belt on....

Yup it's tight, but it does not slip.

    For Lee:

If the smell is not gone yet why don't you try to stop farting in your car.

    cct1... been there, done that.

    From the way-back machine... 2007:

I wrote a poem about it back then:

Oh yeah... and I run a 532 on my 17%. It's definitely the right length. And it's tight.

I much more prefer to use the pry bar. That when it slips off it scares the crap out of who ever is unlucky enough to help me and I get a good laugh.
