Well it's not 10 degrees anymore and since Mr. Jimbo has been busting me about my Mod schedule :D I finally got started this week!

The Mynes V2 header is a thing of beauty  Should in go on the wall or in the MINI? I've installed many brand headers over the years and this has to be one of the best fitting ever.

To set up for the removal you have to get the MINI up on jack stands so it's high enough to remove the stock manifold.

I decided to wrap it instead of leaving it bare, since it's stainless no worries about corrosion if the wrap gets wet. I choose DEI Titanium Exhaust Wrap by recommendation of someone on the forums.

    From DEI website:

    Withstands 1800˚F direct/2500˚F radiant heat
Promotes increased flow for improved performance
High resistance to chemical & oil spills and abrasions
    Reduces temperature & vibration breakdown
Extremely pliable for easy install – will not shrink
No need to "wet" wrap to install
NOTE: Design Engineering HT Silicone Coating spray is NOT recommended for DEI Titanium wrap.

The wrap was fairly easy to install and the result was a nice tight fit.

    3.jpg

    I think they'll be a difference!

The top heat shield was not going to fit in the original form...

    6.jpg

So I drilled out the rivets and made some adjustments to keep the stock appearance and protection.
    7.jpg 8.jpg

The header was a little tricky to maneuver up into position, but once in it matted right up the head.

    4.jpg 5.jpg

I used Stage 8 locking header bolts to insure they would loosen down the road. Got everything put back together and then the moment of truth arrived.......

Next up the Vorshlag camber plates and then brakes so the drive-by video will have to wait....

    Nice job MrJim...
    I like the burble....
The wrap, is it a titanium metal weave or a fiberglass wrap that is colored to look metallic?

I believe it's fiberglass and something else, judging by the way it made me itch when I was done, lol. The DEI website has the full breakdown on it.

Very nice Mr.Jim, I am extremely happy with my V2 as well, especially the "popping and burble". It really runs nice and doesn't let out its mean and aggresive tone untill I put the peddle down, I am running a JCW catback so not sure how others sound. The best thing is by using the stock cat I have no CEL's :D

Thanks for the write-up. I'm planning on getting these headers after April 15th, and the header wrap looks like a good thing to add to the list.

Agreed  They did a great job on the welding and fitment too. I've got to install the Innovation AFR gauge next.

I had planned on Jet-Hot at first but read some threads about it not lasting on the SS and past experience with wrap was not good. They made stuff much better these days, lol.

Did you use the stainless steel band clamps they sell at DEI for tying off the wrap material?

Good job on the heat wrap... I'll have to do that next to mine as well.

The V2 with the JCW Exhaust is one of my favorite combo

The current batch of V2's will ship out Feb 22nd, still have a couple of units available :D

Thanks Jim for the install pics.

Yes I used those, I thought they would fit tighter though, was not that pleased with them as I would have liked.

Hmm, I know they fit a bit loose on aircraft to keep the clamp from stressing the manifold when the manifold heats and expands. I wonder if the idea is the same for these clamps.

Would this be a valid mod if you plan on running the OEM exhaust one ball mod?

Why not, header is a header. its going to improve performance regardless of the exhaust behind it.
Probably a flatter torque curve plus a header created sound is always good.

The wrapping of any part of the exhaust system will help to maintain exhaust velocity and temperatures. So even wrapping an oem exhaust manifold/hedder will benefit.
I have wrapped 3 oem MINI hedders CAT up and like the aftermarket hedder you could almost grasp the primary tube even after an all day drive and not get burned. It helped control the heat that well.
I am sure Mr.Jim can contest to this?

The stainless steel clamps need a bit of nurturing using six figures, 3 hands 2 needle nose pliers and dikes to get them really tight.
And itching is a sign that the wrap job was well done!

Sorry I have looked around and can't seem to find the oem wrap picture of mine? I know it is posted on a forum somewhere a few years ago?

Yes, the heat control is very good with the wrap.

    Hey Mike,
I think it must be, cause I tried to really tighten the first two and really buggered them up. Had to cut off and put new ones.

How much wrap did you use, and was it the 1" or the 2"?

Also, does anyone have a better tie-down system? It sounds like a bunch of people have issues with the metal straps.
