Here we go with 2014! New organisers, new format, new cars so this year looks to be interesting. This year we have a new Toyota GT86 which should be fun if the driver can keep it on the road! We plan to do 4 of the 5 events due to my work schedule. Seeing as this is the first rally and the rules say you have to do the first and last rally I'm going to fly in for the rally like a real rally hero! I just got back from CR after a hectic 3 weeks of preparation and very frustrating because 2 sets of 5th gears went MIA! When I left on Saturday I have the Mini on the jacks with the 5th gear removed for the new Emini parts 5th gear to be installed when I land on Thursday 15th. The plan is to install the gear and hit the road for the 4 hour jouney to Liberia. The recce is an early morning affair, then the tech test and Start ceremony. There are 10 stages of 120km covering Saturday and Sunday which will be a tough event due to the rough terrain and hot climate. The Mini feels good and we hope to break the run of 2 NACAM none finishes in the Suzuki. Based on the performance from the last rally we hope to finish on the podium if lady luck stays with us. My co-driver says we are going to win so I'm going with that. With being such a long rally the paln is to drive to finish.

With 5 in the class of N2 I think a careful steady run will be the order of the weekend. I've heard the stages are really bad due to the heavy rain. We all know the Mini is not a rough road car. So we plan to make some really good notes to highlight the rough and rutted areas and when to slow down. To be honest I'm not a fan of rough car breaker stages as you can't get flowing through the stages without some big rock destroying either the tyres or the suspension.
Go fast where you can, but be very aware of the traps that will bite you. I don't know where you will be running on the road, but the road may get worse as more cars chew their way over it. Safety Fast as MG used to say.
Off to the airport! I have my 5th gear from Emini parts! Just got to fit it tonight and go. I'll be happy when the first stage has started.
