Hello there, im new here.. but already have some questions, sorry. I have an 05 Mini Cooper and the power steering pump sounds like its constantly on, I have done some reading up on it.. I just want to make sure thats whats wrong with it before I replace it. It turns on as soon as I hook up the battery cables, I disconnected to find out why it was draining my battery.

    Welcome to M/A!

I have an '03 Cooper and the power steering constantly whines whenever I make turns. Could that be what you are hearing? I've been told to "get over it", as it's a common thing.

Welcome to M/A the FUN Mini site.

FYI the power steering pump is electric so you will get used to the sound.

    Welcome to M/A :D

There is a recall or service campaign for power steering pumps from 2002-2005 I believe. I'd visit your local dealer & have them diagnose it & fill you in if your car is included.

Let us know where you live & we can point you to a good dealer.

You can also call MINI North America and give them your vin. They will tell you if its covered under the extended recall. I just had my 2002 done for free.

You can also find out what options your car was delivered with, as well as the delivery date and delivery dealer.

Thank you for the advice on the recall, I called my mini dealership here in El Paso and talked to them. Set up an appointment and replaced the pump along with the fan and a hose or two for $50 bucks.
