MINI will have a new variant of the 18-inch Cross Spoke wheel starting in spring 2011 The black wheel features the innovative addition of a red trim stripe on the wheel rim. This high-quality marking is produced by means of a special painting process, and the color tone is identical to the red of the Brembo brake calipers on factory John Cooper Works models.
Yeah, there are about 5 years behind the times with that stripe. On the other hand it is a match for brake caliper, at least until a track day and the caliper starts getting darker red.
It's disappointing how heavy all the OEM wheels are. On the flip side you rarely hear of them getting damaged. I always wonder how durable, for street driving where all the potholes are, is a set of 17" or 18" rims sub-16lbs
I can't say for certain, but I would guess it would "when" would you damage one, rather "if" you would. Jim
Yah I'm sure Volk would be super pleased to hear that MINI is trying to pass off their special "time attack" style as new and innovative 5 or 6 years after they debuted the original idea and 3 or 4 years after all the cheap replica companies drove the fad into the ground. Guess MINI is just counting on their customer base not getting out much in the rest of the car world.
