Hi Everyone, Well, as you can figure I am new here. My in laws have had 4 Minis- 1 Clubman, 2 hatchbacks, and 1 coupe. My father in law trades cars like you wouldn't believe- he kept the coupe for something like 3 weeks- he decided it was too small and traded it on a 2012 hatchback (he didn't like the sunroof on the first hatch.) Anyway, my mother in law decided she liked the new hatch better than her 2009 Clubman S, so my father in law offered it to me for the same money the Mini dealer was going to buy it back for- $17,900. What I bought- Pepper White Auto 16" Alloys with Run Flats 22K miles Serviced at Mini per computer My thoughts- I love the car, and eventhough my last car was a 2009 Hyundai Accent (bought with 1600 miles and immaculately maintained) I am no stranger to sports cars. Some of what I have owned so you have a reference: 1979 MGB- restored plus dual SUs, Minilite wheels, header and free flow exhaust. Daily driver 5 years- yes it can be done. 1986 Porsche 944- Hitler's revenge- hated it. 1993 VW Corrado SLC- loved it until 60K miles, then everything broke. 1989 BMW 325is- Sold at 250K- my favorite car to date 1994 BMW 325is- Traded at 194K 2009 Hyundai Accent GS- Sold at 58K the most reliable car I have ever owned but BORING. I love the S already- thinking of calling her Rita- Beatles Sgt. Peppers reference due to color. What needs to be done: oil is grungy. On board computer says I have 3200 left until oil change. No way am I doing that. Run flats are LOUD. Can't wait to wear them out. Is there some type of OCD guide to Mini maintenance? I'd like to drive this car for 200K plus. I'm not afraid to "over maintain" as I feel it is cheap insurance against breakdowns and increases longevity. I commute 100 miles a day- 98% highway at speeds from 60-80. Any comments or advice are welcome.
Welcome! Always good to see more clubbies. Sounds like you got a good deal. Too bad about the runflats. I couldn't wait to get rid of mine. There are plenty of OCD maintenance guys here so they will fill you in on your compulsion .
Welcome to you & Rita. M/A is great place to learn all things MINI. Lots of helpful folks here. First thing I would do is change the oil. MINI wants you to go 15,000 miles. For my money changing it at 5,000 will do nothing to hurt your car & likely will help extend its life. Now how about some pictures of the clubman? :useless
Thanks for the warm welcome. I stopped last night and bought oil for the oil change this morning. I had to run up the highway this morning to the dealer to get the oil filter. That thing is small! Got the oil change done and realized the OBC was all out of whack due to (I think) a battery replacement done at the dealer right before I bought her. The rear pad sensors were showing needing replacement in 3000 miles but the fronts in 9000 miles. I reset the computer and now it shows the fronts in 9000, rears in 34000 more miles and a service in 8000 more miles. I'll do the service, front brakes and change the oil in 7500. Speaking of oil, it showed 7000 miles until it needed changing. No way- it was nasty. I used Royal Purple 5W30 with the OEM filter. Hope I did well. I realize Royal Purple isn't LL04 certified, but I'm not going to leave in in that long- 7500 miles will be in another 3 months. The old oil was HOT!!
Welcome, I think the oil you used is fine - I agree that at 7,500 mile change intervals it doesn't make sense to need a LL oil. I've done mine at those intervals too, and the inside of my head looks like it's brandy new, and the oil I drain out looks pretty clean - I may start going to 1yr/10K intervals, like the new MINI warranty requirement. I just use the MINI oil tho, since it's about the same price as Mobil1, and I just pick it up when I get the filter...... My '09 Clubby should have about 60K on it by now, but since I "retired" last year I hardly drive it at all, so it's only about 45K..........still, no issues at all.
As one 09 Clubbie owner to another... WELCOME! Now, as a Klipsch/McIntosh/Linn+Fisher/Frazier/Fons owner... tell me about your Hi-Fi!
Howdy. I've got an 09 hardtop with 55,600 miles on him so far. Been doing an oil change between dealer intervals.
