Hi, I bought a 2009 MINI Cooper S earlier this week! I have wanted one for a long time. It is Dark Silver with a Black Roof. So cool looking. I am waiting on the weather to improve so I can get it out and play. I found this site by looking around while researching MINIs before I bought the 2009. I am sure I will have lots of questions. One big question - it came with only one key remote. I have heard that the dealer charges $$$ for a new one. What / where is the best place to get one? And how to program it and get the key cut?

    Thanks!

    Welcome to the FUN site.

Congrats on the MINI. My 2nd MINI was an '09. It treated me well. Enjoy!

As far as I know, you're stuck going through the dealer for the key. Sorry.

You have to buy them and get them programmed at the dealer. Expect to pay at least $200. You need to have an extra one :eek6:

I "Googled" Mini electronic key and found this; it's supposed to be for a 2007 R56. Assuming you find a new/used remote, it's worth a try before you take it to a dealer for re-programing:Have all keys with you inside the car and repeat again with the second key within 30 seconds...... "Press and hold the 'unlock' button while at the same time pressing the center 'lock' button three times. On the third time, release the 'lock' button at the same time you release the 'unlock' button." If you have a key with three buttons, ensure doors are unlocked. Put key in ignition and turn key over to 2d position where dash lights, etc come on. Pull key out. Press and hold the "unlock" button while at the same time pressing the center "lock" button three times. On the third time, release the "lock" button at the same time you release the "unlock" button
