I own a 2006 Mini Cooper S that recently threw a EVAP code that I was told by the auto supply store the seal was bad on the gas cap. Is this a common problem for my vintage car with 48,000 miles? Also, is a replacement gas cap a dealer part or is it available from auto supply stores? Thanks for your help!
Most likely not from mileage , but from age yes. The seal can deform overtime and cause a slight leak enough to trigger a check engine light. Happens on new cars as well. MINI Parts -
Welcome to M/A! Hummmph...VINTAGE CAR? Ohhhhh...the agony [says the guy with TWO '06 Vintage Cars and a "caveman era" '03 Cooper]. I have never had an issue with a MINI gas cap leaking...I make sure it "clicks". However, some other cars I have owned [before my MINIs] had problems and the dealers always told me it was because the caps were not fully twisted on. So, I try to make sure the caps are always "on tight".
