Anyone here have an issue where you plug in your fob, hit the start button and nothing happens? This has happened 2x now. I plug and unplug the fob several times, and re=hit the start button. It then starts after doing this several times. I am taking Artemis to the dealership this week for them to check out, but I thought I'd ask here if anyone encountered this so I don't go in blind. Thx
I don't think so...... I think it's happened both times on the one. I do try and periodically swap them out, but I think it's been a little while.
My comment is not very good but, I have on more than one occassion, neglected to press on the brake pedal with enough pressure to engage the starter. Not very bright on my part!
As far as I know, both the clutch and Brake were completely pressed down, but I will keep that in my mind.
On both our 1st and 2nd gens, you just push in the clutch, no need to hold down the brake. Only on a manual would you need to hold the brake. If the fob unlocks the door, I don't think it is the fob battery.
I wasn't aware that the fob battery is charged when in the slot. Does this mean that I should be switching fobs occasionally to keep both charged? Sorry, didn't intend to hijack the thread :smile5:
:cornut: Did you mean.........."only on an AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION would you need to hold(push on?) the brake."(?) Jason
It looks like they got the point through above, but make sure that you are pressing the clutch all the way to the floor if in a manual or that your foot is firmly on the brake and the gear selector in park if in an auto. On my R53, I have a main engine relay that likes to wiggle itself loose. Twice it has vibrated up, loosing connection intermitantly so that if I try to start the car 5 times in a row, it will fail... then will start a few times perfectly... then will fail 20+ times... then work great again for 10 tries... then start failing again. I just open the relay box (like a large fuse box under the bonnet) and press all of the relays down firmly. Problem solved (for a few years, until it wiggles back up again).
Newby We have a 2009 Mini automatic with only 8000 miles on it. We bought it new. On random occasions it will react the same way as your no start condition. Plug in the fob and push the button only to get a very quick noise like it wants to start but nothing happens. We get an indicator warning light (picture of a door with a large exclamation mark alongside it). Thinking that is an indication the doors are ajar, I tried opening and closing doors and unlocking and locking them (including the rear hatch), but no luck. Also opened and closed the windows, again no luck. After a few more tries at plugging and unplugging the fob, it starts. The dealer says the battery is low. I charged the battery and drove the car for a long distance. This morning I started the car and shut if off. A short while later, same no start condition with same warning light icon. Plug and unplug fob a few times, lock and unlock doors and car started. We are very reluctant to use the car for fear of not being able to start it.
Huh- that sounds odd. Not exactly what I am experiencing though. I get no noise or indicator light. Again, it's only happened 2x at this point over a couple months time. If it was the battery, I would think the doors wouldn't open. I'd take it back to the dealership as soon as it does it again.
MINI says you should use each key fob at least once a month. However, the car will start with a dead battery in the fob.... I'm betting on a bad connection at the clutch switch (don't need to hold the brake on a stick to start it, only the auto cars like Lotsie tried to say)
Just a side note that you all, most likely, already know. To switch fobs you do not have to remove the entire thing from your key ring. Just press the little button, remove the fob from the hidden key, then swap the fobs from key to key. Jim
