Ok so this may be long. I have two problems(well not me my MINI I have way more problems then two) First is short. This problem started after installing a new belt tensioner, idler pulley, ATI damper, new belt and changing the SC oil. If the car sits for a day or so when I drive it, it has a shake in the front right. At least as far as I can tell. It goes away after about 5min. It feels like a flat spot on the tire. I have checked all of them and they look fine. I have even rotated the tires but no change. Any one have a clue? Next. I changed all those parts because when taking my car to redline, if you did it in two or more gears, you would smell rubber. The other day I was getting on a strip of highway that was empty. I took it to redline through 4th gear. I could smell rubber once agin. So all that work for nothing. Back in the summer I was accelerating down an on ramp, when I looked in my rear view mirror I saw a lot of white stuff blowing up behind the car. but I didn't run over anything. This happened twice. Could my exhaust be partially blocked causing to much back pressure and making the SC belt to slip? Any ideas? I have 17% pulley, headers, and a cat back exhaust. Thanks
Hummm maybe go back and double check everything is tight and nothing loosened up on you. Make sure the belt is straight and maybe inspect it for odd wear. As for the white stuff behind you....I have no idea because if you blew a head gasket you would have known it.
Thanks Dave. I'll check to make sure nothing has gotten lose. The stuff that that I saw behind me looked like feathers.
No bird it happend on two different days. I'm kind of wondering if I did blow the guts out of the cat and now my exhaust is partly blocked. I guess I could take down the exhaust and see if any thing comes out. It's not throughing any codes.
Get the car up in the air in a safe way. With the engine cool. Start hitting the exhaust & listen for rattling.
I talk to one of the guys at Detroit Tuned today about the smell of my belt burning. He asked who's SC pulley i had. When I said it was ______ pulley he said that they have had lots of problems with that brand. He said they even had one slip and destroy a SC, and they are known to eat belts. Now I guess I have to get another 17% pulley. Just for fun can DaveO guess the who's pulley I had? I got it from them before I knew better.
_LT_ I would like to buy a vow please... A ALTA And what did you win, a free trip to a shop to pay again to have the correct part that really fits installed.
