My 03 coolant tank has developed the dreaded seam leak after almost 10 years. Is the revised OEM version prone to this issue, or is it a permanent fix?
Coolant tank MINI did make a revision to the coolant tank at one point. The original tank was white ( turns yellow over time) the newer design is a greenish coolor. Here is a link to the ad we have up for the expansion tank: http://www.motoringalliance.com/forums/1st-generation-parts-sale/12733-oem-coolant-expansion-tank.html#axzz1wFt1JGqi Hope this info is helpful. Thank you
Hungry vendor, needy customer meet on line. Order Number: 30118xxx, 17-13-7-529-273 Coolant Expansion Tank has shipped. Thank you!
Both of the OEM ones are crap and fail fail and fail again. They fail on BMWs and they fail on the MINI. Buy the aftermarket one made by Forge, it is made of steel and call it a day.
You Know, I asked that exact question yesterday. If this SOB fails that is the last order they ever get from me.
The vendor can only sell what MINI has. My tank has ben fine for 108,000 miles. If it goes FUBAR i'd have problem buying another oem one.
We've seen many of the OEM tank fail, even the newer version. If you don't want it to fail go with the Forge Coolant tank, it is all Aluminum and won't fail again.
the problem with the Forge tank is: Has a stock cap that will leak and are prone to failure. Then your pretty tank looks like someone spent a night at the local bar and had about 10 too many
I put in the Forge unit last year, oem wasn't leaking after 6 years but piece of mind well worth it with the Forge.
FYI we also have a new more affordable version of the aluminum coolant tank Polished Aluminum Coolant tank R53 - Way Motor Works
