I broke down and did the oil change on my daily driver, a Volvo XC60. It has been under factory maintenance or I've been too busy / lacking garage space to do it myself before, so this was my first time wrenching on the car. I got oil... filter... a new plug... pads/rotors/seals... then I started doing the work and realized "oh crap... oil filter wrench! WTF?" I opened up the engine bay, pulled the PS fluid tank aside (much like the R56, you have to move a tank, but this didn't require removal of a bolt) and said "IT CAN'T BE!!" Yep... the exact same 36mm socket that pops the MINI oil filter off fits the Volvo!
Remember the old days.. it was easy. You could stand in the engine bay.. not so much anymore. Times change
I have people that do my oil changes for $20 and a cold six pack. I supply the oil and filter. I am too lazy now to do it myself.
Fully understand.. I take the 250 in for service. But stuff I’m tuning/working on... I do myself. Probably should’t. Like taking the rear end off the RZR.. just want to do it myself when I know I need it to work. I need the suspension, bearings, and radius rods to work.. when I’m working up a hill.
Lazy = Fat and Old? Never met ya brother, but the day I can’t change my own oil, take me out behind the woodshed with an axe.
I can't change my oil any more, but if you come at me with an ax I can still take care of that. My mechanic changes mine for $15 and I supply the oil and filter.
Yup fat and old. You hit that nail on the head. Lmao My car is babied and my time is worth more than the time it would take me to complete the job without a lift. My buddy’s shop is open to me when I need it so they do the oil change and I supply the cold beer. I like going over the underside and making sure is in top condition.
Working on it - complete rebuild of rear end and some on the front plus chasing an electrical issue... never ending. And yes, I will capture some video and post it. Going to be a 3 day run in WV. Usually creates some great rides and night rides.
I have a set of quick jacks on the way... will be doing a full review of them. That maybe a good alternative to a full lift in the garage. Granted that would be my preference but space and ceiling hight doesn't permit.
