Hello, first timer on this forum... My wife's warranty has recently expired on her '07 Cooper. I am going to be performing the servicing for her in my garage, however my years of working on Chevy's is helping me very little, as I am having difficulty locating the oil filter and hopefully, when I do, I can fit my arm in and reach it. Does anybody have information that can help me first... locate the filter and second, effectively perform the necessary servicing that this little pepper pot requires. I am certainly looking forward to this challenge as I love learning things about different cars!!! Thanks for your help
Howdy, thanks for joining... This 07, is it a hard top or convertible. Makes a big difference as 07 hardtops are 2nd generation MINIs and the convertible is still a 1st generation. You can find an oil change guide in the Motoring Alliance Library. This link goes to the 2nd generation one.
It's up front on top, not underneath. Look for the black plastic filter cover with the large hex head, front of the car, on the driver's side of the engine. It's a couple inches below the black upper radiator support beam. It's a 27mm hex socket. As the oil pan is draining, unscrew the filter housing part way and wiggle it to break the air lock. Additional oil will drain from the filter, so give it a few extra minutes, otherwise when you pull the filter housing you'll have to wipe up the drips.
Here you go, just what you need. We do have an interesting library you might like to spend some time in. Go to the top of the forum page and click library, enjoy. http://www.motoringalliance.com/library/2nd-generation-mini-cooper-how-to-4/r56-oil-service-13/
