Ok so I've never had it but I do now. So a vote what should I use to get rid of it?

I'm sure one of these will dry it out.

not sure about your home remedies but try this: Use a cold compress to relieve itching and get more relief from itching, try calamine lotion, an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream, or antihistamine.

Don't call me insane....this really works. I get Poison Ivy really bad if I get even close to it.
My remedy: take a credit card and break the rash open. Pour bleach on the rash (yea, it stings like crazy for 30 seconds or so). The itching goes away and the bleach dries it up. It stings like hell but it's better for me than dealing with the itch and having it spread all over my body.

Or if you want to go a little safer than bleach. There is a product called Tecnu. Its a poison Ivy wash, almost like a very thin lotion. You apply it to the affected area, and let it sit and dry for I believe 10-15 mins, then carefully wash it off. Might take a couple of applications, but this stuff works wonders. I am highly susceptible to poison ivy and if I don't use this stuff fast, then I end up having to go to the doctor to get a shot.

I have done the bleach thing myself. The Tecnu might be a better alternative for some people..

If it gets really bad the doc can give you a shot of cortisone in the a$$. I've had it that bad and it works.

From reading the OP, I think he is asking how to get rid of it in the yard.....? Otherwise he is asking about how to get it off his car...:biggrin5:

ScottinBend No it's on me, I'll get poisen for the yard. If my Mini had it I would be upset.:biggrin5:

I've been using the Tecnu the past few days. It hasn't spread but its not getting better. The bleach sounds like a fast fix. I'll give it a try

    Thanks everyone.

I think the Tecnu is supposed to be applied as soon as you come into contact with the poison ivy before it spreads to other areas. It DOES work, but if you apply it after the oil has spread to other parts of the body, then, ya might as well just take a thorough shower with it.

I get it so bad that only a steroid shot gets rid of it. Bleach is not a good idea as it opens pores in the skin and can spread the rash. I finally got a prescription cream called clobetosol proportionate (sp?) that dries it up quickly and stops the spread, but if too bad I get the shot

Don't think anything will clear it up in a day or two. Going to be at least 3-5 days regardless of what you use and or more if you just ruff it out.

I was in that crap so much when I was stationed at Ft. Campbell (KY/TN) that I became nearly immune to it.

Not saying you should occasionally go and jump into the bushes, but it helps if you gain a tolerance to it.

If you just want the itching to subside do the bleach trick, and rinse with a generous amount of the strongest acidity level of vinegar you can find. It's not a permanent fix, but it feels better for a while.

    One word: CLOROX

Suck it up, scratch it real good and cover it with Clorox. When the burning is over relax and have a beer.

I agree Ft Campbell has a ton of it but I am not allergic to it so no issues.
