Some customers have told us that they don't like using a wrench to tighten the hinge on their FlexPod GPS and Phone mounts. So we want to provide a knob that can be tightened by hand. We never did before because it didn't look as good as the button head, so help us pick the best looking option.... Please vote below, and if you already have a FlexPod and want a knob...fear not. We will be offering them for FREE on our site very soon!
For my flexpod I like the button head. But then again I don't need to move that very often at all. For the iPod mount that I move often I like the idea of an option to make it easier to move. I'd think Kellen kept the results hidden as to not allow previous choices to influence new choices by others.
I agree, Number 3 is the smallest and that makes it a little easier to use too. I am not sure if I can go back and change it to display the results. Nathan?
I'm kinda diggin number 4 Did you look into the possability of a round knob, with the little knures in them? That way it could be smaller and less un-sitely . Just my 2cents
Smaller knob, for those with small hands. I imagine you can get a good grip on it to tighten even if small. Might have to order up the Garman setup, looks more useful than most.
So, if the results are hidden, how come you can see the results by clicking on "View Poll Results"? Or, was it just added?:blush2: Ah geeze, I see it was just fixed.
WOW! Fast work on a solution to the dangling FlexPod issue! I definitely prefer #3 for its size and convenience. My FlexPod for iPhone 4 tends to move to a variety of positions, depending on which feature is in use, and tightening the bracket with a dedicated torx driver was a minor hassle.
We did try out a round one, but even the small one was a bit too large. It rubs right up against the tach. It was cumbersome, and the only one I automatically took out of the running (and I left the door knob in). We will continue providing the button head because it works very well and looks good.
Ahh. see I was thinking I'd use it at the elbow point, but then I forget sometimes that I added one of the bones to make mine fit exactly where I wanted it with a smaller than OEM Steering Wheel. Kellen, whats the thread pitch. I may just hit up the local hardware store for one of the smaller knurled type knobs. (we still have an old fashioned family run hardware store around here that has that kind of stuff)
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMIoY_lFN94]YouTube - Garmin Articulation[/ame] I shot some video of installing the various knobs yesterday, first I had to get the button head off. I thought if I went back and fourth enough it would get loose enough to take off by hand, but I guess it was too tight for that. The video of the knobs seemed less useful than the photos I posted but if you want to see it before making your decision I will have to oblige...
I like the button head, but I dislike that if it comes loose in traffic for whatever reason, I have no way to fix it quickly. The vibration from solid bushings/motor mounts/stiff suspension and the weight of the GPS being placed up above like a torque arm all work against the little button head.
I am with Nathan, the round knob looks more OEM. If you want leverage, then #2 is the best. #3 just looks like a hacked-off #2. For any option it would be optimal if the threads had a nylon insert like in a locking nut. This way you can adjust it to be exactly as tight as you want it to be and it will still hold. Also, it will not self loosen via vibration or if you move the arm back and forth a few times.
