So...One of my good friends is a master BMW tech who running a BMW and MINI shop. He has had 5 R56 Justas in with premature piston wear. those cars all are under 70K and of course out of warranty.

Is this a very common thing of the N12 engine? Two of the cars overheated.

I wonder if they were following the factory recommended oil change interval?

We were thinking that. If that is the case my Justa needs to have oil changes between the 10K recommended. MY MCS has oil changes every 5K.

I've heard more than a few BMW techs say change your oil at half the recommended interval. Seems like that would prevent quite a few of these issues.

We hear a lot from customers "I have to check my oil?"

Interesting how there is the "Official" BMW / MINI oil change interval....

And then there is the "Un-official" BMW / MINI Tech oil change interval....

Almost like there are the "Bean Counters" that don't leave the air-condition head office...

And then there are the Tech's in the trenches that are close to the action...

Many folks do not even know how to open their hood, let along check the oil. Sad, but true.

As long as BMW/MINI gets you to the end of warranty that is all that matters to them. If you have a junk engine by then they'll $ell you another engine or car.
