I have two 12 inch subs and a Pioneer amp and a Kenwood KDC-X498 radio sitting in my garage. the amp and subs have been sitting for more than a year. The radio is out of my sons BMW and he does not want to us it in his FJ. My Mini has the stock radio and a dice unit and Kicker speakers in the door, stock speakers in the rear. I like the way the dice unit works. When I plug in my iPod i can control it ether by the radio or the iPod. On the Kenwood it takes over the iPod and you have to use the radio to control it. Also you plug in the iPod in to the front of the Kenwood. I do not like having wires all over the place. With the dice everything is nice and hid. My boys make fun of me over this. So what I would like to do is use the subs. With the stock radio would be great. That way I keep a clean install, but I do not know how to use the subs with the stock radio. If I put the Kenwood in I can do it. I had another Kenwood in my mini and the iPod plugs were on the back but it was 2003 vintage and my click wheel iPod never work with it. When I took it out I left the control wire of the subs in place. Can some one help? below are the pictures of what I have.
Sorry I can't help I'm audio ignorant. I'm sure someone will chime in here & tell you how to wire that bad boy boom box up.
Yea me too. The magnet came off one sub I don't know if it can be fixed. But I do know, NOW, not to get my fingers between the magnet and metal.
So I used some google foo and it looks like I need a Low line converter. this way I can use the sub with the stock system. If any of you audio geeks no a better way or have some suggestions on a different head unit I would like to hear it.

Hold on Lee, those line level converters suck. Try looking into one of these. I had one before I got rid on my OEM radio. Keep your OEM radio and look stock and stealth. FYI you really on need (1) 10 inch sub but since you have (1) good 12 that will do also. In no way do you need two 12's in a MINI. Thanks Dave! that does look good. The Pioneer was originally driving the speakers on the car it came out of. But it can drive the sub. The amp that was driving the two subs had a melt down when my son was using it. I wouldn't mind using the Kenwood head unit but I hate that the iPod plugs into the front. Maybe I'm too picky
No you are not picky at all. That's how I have my Alpine 305 set up you see nothing, no wires. I ran the wire from the unit to my glove box. My 160 GB iPod classic is in the glove box and I never have to touch it unless I want to connect it to iTunes to update it. The Alpine media unit I have has no CD player just AM FM (which I do not have connected) it's a full color display and shows Album artwork and works just like the iPod.
Did the Dynamat in the floor, doors and rear quarter help and why not the hatch? Thats a nice radio you have I looked it up on the internet. Its the same price as the CL441dsp. The Alpine may be the way to go.
Yeah with the Alpine unit you get all the RCA's you need built right in. (Front Rear and Sub) with a separate control for the Sub level. As for Dynamat in my car I have it covering everything now. I removed the whole interior when I put in my Recaro seats and my rear seat delete. Inner and outer front doors for excellent mid base from my 6.5 door speakers. Inner and entire outer rear quarters for the 6x9s. They also produce nice tight bass. The whole entire floor is done (firewall to back bumper) because well my header and MOTD exhaust. I also did the inner and outer rear hatch and the back of my license plate. I hate little rattles. :mad2: My car is very dead inside and it's perfect for nice audio unlike a stock MINI that sounds like a tin can with lots of little rattles and buzzes. My wife says my car is quieter inside driving then her Lexus when I have just my Milltek exhaust on. Road noise is very low.
It looks like the ida x305 is out of production. There are a couple used ones on flee bay both a guaranteed to work. The new ones I have found are ida x305s I believe the only difference is the CD player witch I will never use. I may take a chance on a used unit that does not have the CD player.
Buy the used one since its a media unit and has no CD player so it really has nothing really to break inside. The 3 RCA outputs and iPod controls are really all you need. On and you can change the color display from Blue to Red to match your factory interior lights. Also if I remember correctly the outputs are like 4 volts which will help the signal to noise ratio meaning you can set the amps imput level low and still have lots of power for a clean signal. People that use poor grounds, cheap RCA cables with no shielding tent to crank up the imput setting on the amp and that's whey people get the electrical "whine" becuase the are over working the amp.
