[ame="http://www.motoringunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15848"]R56 MCS muffler on my R53 - motoring|underground[/ame] I've been thinking (today) about going with a similar setup as this.. Luckily my Borla mufflers are not welded on, so I can try out a straight through setup before I figure out which one piece muffler to use. Has anyone on here done this or know what it sounds like? Thx
what im looking for is [ame="http://www.motoringunderground.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15848"]R56 MCS muffler on my R53 - motoring|underground[/ame] Basically, I'm wondering if my 04 R53 will sound louder or even have more oomph if I replaced the borla mufflers with a straight through and single muffler..
Ur right.. But im not listening to this voice in my head right now.. Lol. I got the idea because of the rear diffuser on the R53 which needs a center muffler, which looks tempting along with the front aero splitter!! *drool* Mini motoring!
Here ya go.... Saw this on ebay today, seems pretty low cost... mini cooper items - Get great deals on Exhaust Systems Car, Mufflers Accessories items on eBay Stores!
That is low.. Thanks metalman. I will see how the borla exhaust sounds with obx header before trying obx exhaust. Mini motoring!
With our exhaust you do not have to relocate the battery box . It is a straight back system designed by a Magnaflow engineer that now has his own shop . The increase in power has been stated as "HOLLY S**T". :eek6: Mark
1+ you do NOT not need to relo the battery with the G4 set up. I have an 05 r53 with a straight back exhaust. RMW header (2) Magnaflow SS mufflers in line, and a custom tig welded 2 1/2 SS pipe under the battery box. Is it cool? yes Is it Loud? hell yeah Does it increase power? Butt Dyno says yes.
R53 MCS M45 SC Not speaking TURBO of anykind....... Depending on which "Borla" muffler you have it is more than likely closer or exceeding the maximum Exhaust CFM the R50-R53 can flow? So it may be better performance for you not go to a oem of any kind from any model MINI? The flow rate of a MINI 1.6 is 396cfm. Most aftermarket mufflers systems (average) available not custom one off designs have a sound rating from 78db(+-5db) to **110db (+-5db)**@WOT. *There are too many factors to be more precise with the end sound db results. The increase in HP for any system replacing a *stock R53 is between 1-3 HP(-1-3hp?). This can vary if you formulate other changes at the time of a system replacement which may change the total output? Also the sound does not constitute a power increase. In fact in many instances were individuals claim to feel more power the actual tested result was less than the system replaced. Sound has such a psychological effect on us? This may be why you do not see many manufactures of MINI exhaust systems offering Dyno tested Data of a before and after install of their exhaust system on a base line stock MINI? Just because the muffler you chose has a good flow rate does not mean that the rest of the exhaust flows as well. Now the bummer is the trade off. If you increase the exhaust pipe diameter to increase flow you also slow down the exhaust velocity which means you lose power(simple explanation). So it really becomes a careful research to choose the right system between the sound you want and what you expect or desire in an increase in power?
I'm hearing a lot of good stuff! Thanks guys. So do I just search for "g4 mini cooper exhaust?" Is there a direct link to the product? I have the Borla Street I believe, because it is not as loud as Borla Race exhausts I've heard on u-tube. I think I will be losing most of the edgy torque that my mini has now once I install the new 4-2-1 header with longer pipes than stock. It will get probably louder, and hopefully in a way pleasing to my ears. The air intake may be increasing sound and air volume after I modify the cai a big more. I hope to regain the torque I lose with the new header by adding the camshaft aimed at LOW to MID power band. In the end I might have a few more whp and a louder exhaust and a good tune to wrap it up this year (i hope). I have another crazy plan, that I don't want to reveal yet, because it is still ruminating in my head. That's for power mods.
Yes, Go to Group4Autosport.com. +1 to all explanations, that's why ours was designed by an exhaust engineer. We did not start out to have an exhaust but had to to get the diffuser to function properly. We have no ground clearance problems at all . Mark
I will see if I can take one and post it up in my Garage here on MA give me about a 1/2 hour or so. 2 Pictures added see "Under the Bonnet" section in my garage. Chili-PA's Garage :: The Mistress
Ummm...sure looks like a clearance problem for me at least. No way would I run that exhaust around here. Thanks
WOW! how is the heat to the battery ? Even when I ran my pipes around the battery box I had to use thermal protection on the battery as well the box. Ever feel the inside of the box and see if your battery is getting cooked?
