    Howdy all,

I bought a 2005 JCW several months ago and took apart the airbox the other day. This is the filter that I found in the JCW airbox.

I was told that the filter in there was an aftermarket upgraded unit and was given some cleaning products that I recognized from having a foam filter on a previous R53. I wasn't expecting to find a pleated filter in there.

    1) Does anyone recognize this filter? I couldn't find a brand/mark on it.

    2) Any recommendations on care / cleaning / maintenance? I used to hose off my foam filter, squeeze/massage some special cleaner through it, hose off, dry and lightly oil with a spray-oil and massage the oil evenly through the foam. Can't do that here...

I found the Mini Mania filter... it looks pretty close and has cleaning instructions similar to my old foam one... spray with cleaner, let sit, rinse (low-pressure water), rinse, rinse, drip dry, spray oil.

Looks like K&M. Ether way I believe it is a cotton type filter. You can get K&M cleaning kit from any parts store. It comes with cleaner and spray oil. Put the cleaner on it and let it soak. then spray it off and let it dry completely and spray it with the clean oil. K&M oil has a red tent so you can see that you have good coverage. Dont put to much on it but put enough.

I use the same cleaner and oil I got for one filter for all of them. Can't imagine there's much of a difference. I bought green filter cleaner and oil, so now all my filters get that treatment.I have a Green Filter, a round K+N and a OEM replacement K+N. Actually, that last one is the one I salvaged last summer and soaked and cleaned for days to get a decade of gunk out of it. I put it back in but never oiled it. Seems to be just fine.

I think the oil helps trap small particles.

That’s my understanding also.. oil is for the fine particles. Looks like K&N filter to me..

Yes a K&N filter or a close relative. You don't need much oil. Don't soak it, a light spray does the trick.
