I'm in the process of removing my headliner in my R56 and the rearview mirror is the last piece of the puzzle that holds it in. I'm kind of stumped how to get it out of the car. I removed the electronic module with the map lights and switches and there was a torx screw that after being removed didn't seem to help at all. After feeling around the whole black plastic mirror base there aren't any obvious plugs blocking any screws. The only other thing I can think of is that the mirror base needs to be opened along the seam. Has anyone removed this before? I know the keyless remote receiver is inside here and I don't want to damage it as I need to mount it again when the headliner is out. I have a picture below of the seam I describe.
I have no idea BT you could try Realoem.com for a parts view. Maybe after the screws are removed it has some clips holding it in really tightly.
Great idea! Real OEM does show that's how to remove it. It's like a nice slick cover for a skeleton. RealOEM.com  BMW R56 Cooper S Inside mirror manually dippable
I don't want to take just the mirror out of the plastic base that's holding it. I need to unscrew the whole base from the roof of the car. In the breakdown of real OEM it looks like removing the shell of the base reveals the fasteners.
Twist the entire item #1 (at its base). It will detach from the headliner bracket (item #3). Once it's off, there will be some wires you have to disconnect.
