    June 29th
    8:30 am
    Grandfather Mountain Drive & Picnic

We will be leaving at 8:25 am from the Arby's on the corner of US 321 and 15th Ave NE just before crossing the Catawba River into Caldwell County. All members wanting to meet us in Blowing Rock, we will be leaving Shoppes on the Parkway between 9:10 and 9:20. We will then leave for Grandfather Mountain via US 221. If we can get a group of 20 people we can get a group rate. We are trying to get to Grandfather prior to 10:00 due to the large volume of visitors during this time. The earlier the better. Everyone bring a cover dish, a blanket or something to sit on. We will have a picnic in McRae Meadows after we come down the mountain. Then we will head back on NC 181 thru Morganton. Ticket prices if we are able to get 20 people: 60 and Over- $13, Adults- $16, Children 4 to 12 yrs- $7
My phone number is 828-962-8909. Please call me if we need to wait on you. or you plan on meeting us in Blowing Rock I will need to know.

    Thanks,
    Susan Sigmon

I believe others are meeting up in Blowing Rock a little later if that helps. I would ask Susan for sure.

    UPDATED INFO:

The run will begin at 8:25am at the Arby’s on US 321 (1470 US 321 NW, Hickory, NC)

We will drive up US 321 to Shoppes on the Parkway in Blowing Rock, arriving at around 9:20am and pick up anyone coming from the Boone area. This will be a quick stop, leaving around 9:30am.

We will then drive to Grandfather Mountain via US 221. Due to the large volume of visitor to the mountain, we’re hoping to arrive around 10:00am and beat the rush. The earlier, the better.

If we get 20 people or more, we will get a group rate on admission to Grandfather Mountain. Admission prices: Adults - $16, 60 and over - $13, Children, ages 4-12 - $7

After touring the top of the mountain and the Wildlife Park, we will proceed down the mountain for a picnic at McCrae Meadows (it’s where they hold the Highland Games). Everyone bring a covered dish, drinks and a blanket or something to sit on. We’ll try to coordinate what dishes everyone is bringing to prevent duplication. Plates, napkins and utensils will be provided.

After the picnic, we will proceed to Linville via US 221 then, down NC 181 to Morganton, where we’ll pickup I-40 and go our separate ways.

Here's the latest regarding the picnic portion of the run....

I know this is last minute but we have had people suggest that with the chance of rain they would rather go to a restaurant than do the picnic. So, we can proceed to Banner Elk to Bayou Smokehouse & Grill then head home from there. This saves everyone from preparing meals and for those of us who have we will be eating ham sandwiches for a week. LOL!

I also need to know if anyone plans on meeting us in Blowing Rock. lf I do not hear from anyone, there will be no reason for us to stop there. So please let me know as soon as possible.

The website for the Bayou Smokehouse & Grill is: http://www.bayousmokehouse.com/

    See you Saturday!

    Susan
