MotoringFile RIP CD Player: The 2014 MINI to Ditch Physical Media

Yes there is a sadness in that statement.....

 

I have been a full supporter of the 3rd Gen and thought many of the new features very forward thinking. Oddly, getting rid of the CD, could give me second thoughts. It seems as if they are making the car a mobile computer work station. Perhaps the "justa" will not have all that stuff and I won't move up to an "S" after all. :-(

 

After 12 years they still refuse to understand their demographics. They have always wanted this car to be a hipster, skinny jeans car and it appears they are continuing to transform it until it is. They are getting close to losing this loyal owner.

Actually they realize the old demographics continue to age and die off... They are attempting to move their product to stay in sync with the current generation as it moves forward.... Notice how Cadillac has transformed itself from what it used to be....

I like the retro idea in a car. Had a Mustang, but the mpg is not so good, so I went with MINI. Not interested in a computer station on wheels, so maybe a Fiat.

BMW finally removes MINI name from 2015 models and decides to call the car what it has become. "BMW.5"

 

What's so great about a CD? I mean, it's not like they've ever offered a factory 8-track for those who really care about music........

 

I haven't ever used the CD player in my Clubman.

I use my CD player all the time. Listen to new bands and decide if they are worthy of the iPod sitting in the glovebox.

 

I've got an aftermarket CD/AM/FM/Bluetooth touchscreen. Never even used the CD player in it lol. I don't buy CDs I just download everything to my phone or put it in a cloud.

 

I must be going backwards, I've been researching turntables and tube amps lately.

 

Thats because the BEST sound truly comes vinyl and warm tube amps.

MP4's and all electronic media only produce about 1/2 of the true sound.

Long live vinyl!

 

I love it too, snap, pop snap, skip. The R53 of music..... :wink:

 

Turntables don't skip as much, If you tape a big pink rubber eraser to the tone arm!
