I got my Scangauge II from Way Motor Works the other day, and installed it last night using the Cravenspeed kit. It's all great stuff, but I've got 2 questions.

First, what have other people done with the little door that normally covers the OBDII port? I tried to pop it off its pegs, but couldn't manage it so I ended up taping it open as far as it would go (toward the front of the car).

Second, what did you put in as the tank size for an R53? The owner's manual says it's 13 gallons, plus 2 gallons as reserve. Should I put 13 or 15 in the Scangauge?

    Thanks!

I did the same thing with the OBDII cover....just tied it up out of the way.

As for the fuel capacity, got me.....I haven't seen a definitive answer on the size of the tank. And I have had as much as 13.9 gallons put in it at fill up time.

The Cooper and S from 09/2000-07/2004 is 13.2 gallons tank capacity. If you are filling more then that it is in the filler and emission lines. Not the best idea but I do it myself.

Lynn, I thought so to but I have reciepts that show more gas put in than that and it was not filed past the nozzle. And these are from the same station. So unless the pumps were way off I have to think that the tanks have a wider range of sizes.....

I know both my cars will regularly take 14+. Same gas station. My personal best was 14.7, once.

It would appear the the R53 has a 50 liter fuel tank. And the reserve light comes on when you are down to the last 8 liters. Total tank size is 50 liters or 13.208603 US gallons or 10.998462 imperial gallons. Any extra fuel would be outside the tank size. Being; the filler neck, the emission lines or in some cases a growing spreading puddle around your Italian stilettos.:D

We all have filled our tanks at one time or another beyond the capacity values! I do anytime I go on a weekend run...or idling my Mini for days at a time in the driveway.

It is very possible and easy to get an extra gallon or so into the fuel containment system of the MINIs. But the actual plastic tank itself under regulations stated fill capacity to 13.2 gallons of fuel. The tanks are designed to allow for fuel expansion and therefore the physical capacity is greater then the stated oem values.

For all intense purposes any aftermarket monitoring devices concerned with capacity goes by the oem stated values.

:Thumbsup:Same here. As a example: (same gas station) I filled up last week and the car told me 435mi to next fill up.When I pulled into the station,Margi had said 70mi to empty. This week I fill up @ 70mi to empty and Margi now says 390mi to empty.I quit trying to figure that out and just drive.:cornut:
