ok, I screwed up my fob trying to program it to take the top down on my 2007 convertible. My fob is no longer locking or unlocking the doors.

Good thing the back hatch was unlocked, I climbed in through there. Could not figure out how to unlock the doors.

How to re-program it to work again , locking and unlocking the doors ?

    PLEASE HELP !!!

If your key/remote wont unlock/lock your doors, try this:

    1. Have all the keys on you when you get into the car.

    2. Get in and shut the doors (dont open them untill your finished programing)

    3. Put a key in the ignition and turn to the first click, then back and take the key out all within 5 seconds

    4. Now hold down the unlock button, while holding it down press the lock button 3 times, then release the unlock button, the doors should lock and unlock. DONT touch the doors or door locks yet.

    5. Repeat action 4 for any other keys

    6. Once youve finished doing this to all the keys you can open the door or put a key in the ign to finish the programming.

    7. Try the lock and unlock with the keys, they should work, if they don't try again, the sequence is critical. If you cant get them to work a trip to the dealer will be happening.

If that doesn't work, try this:

    1. Get in car and close doors.

    2. Insert key into ingnition.

    3. Turn key almost to the point of starting and back 4 times.

    4. Remove key.

    5. Hold down the "unlock" button on the key and push the center "lock" button on the key three times, releasing the unclock button on the key as you release the last of the three "lock" pushes.

The doors should lock and unlock. All done.

You left out the bit about turning round three times and then throwing the salt over your left shoulder. Lots of guys throw the salt over their right shoulder and then the car blows up.

That's only in the Northern Hemisphere, in the Southern Hemisphere you turn round 3 times anti-clockwise and toss the salt over your right shoulder.

:) well , your "re-programming" steps did work so thats good to know (the first part, steps 1-7)
didn't even have to use the salt LOL :)

My husband always says, I should never try something new after having a few beers, I should listen to him :)

You wouldn't happen to know the sequence of events to program the fob to enable the vert top to come down ? Thats what started my whole mess .. I've read that this can be done...

Some of those programmable options need programming at the dealer. Not sure which ones. My R53 has no user programmable options.

As I have found out, you have to be sure the things you read on line pertain to you car you have BEFORE you try them. I was blissfuly following one of MM's posts till I got to the part that said "turn key to the first position". Key, I don't have a key.

When we bought our R52 new in May of 2005 we were told that they stopped programming the key fobs. The reason being that people were killing the battery showing off that that the top can be put up and down with the key fob. Then demanding new batteries or complaining something else was draining the battery. Friends of ours have a 2nd gen convertible, guess what they can do with their key fob? Yup lower and raise the top. Go figure.

Interesting, hum, the service manager at first said, yes we can program that for you, but then when all was done, she said no, that that feature was only available on the "round" fobs ?? And that I could not use that type of fob on my car. I am guessing it must be "car" specific. So perhaps GreatPumpkin is correct. Sec gen mini's must have this. Although first gen hard top mini's I know can lower windows and sunroof. A friend of mine has that capability on his.

I have a 2006 R52 and I'm able to lower the top with the key fob. I did just buy it in April though so I'm not sure on when or how it was programmed.

My fob opens & unlocks the doors, that's it. I've never been able to get it to lower the windows. After many tries at the dealer we all gave up.

Mine opens the windows and sunroof when pressed twice and held. Very odd how we all see some different results. Ahh the quirks of MINI ownership...

Mine will open the windows, if you unlock both doors first then hold down botton, or press twice and hold.
