The "Hippie" thing was a movement, a life style kind of thing and they were not actually the ones protesting. The anti-war types just dressed the same. Many vets went that route, tapping out, so to speak and living outside the main stream. Actually a "van' was their vehicle of choice.

Somehow I interpret a VW Van much differently than a Dodge Caravan. Must be something to do with most VW's chug along in the right lane minding there own business and Dodge Caravan's seem to all want to clog up the left lane

This is very true. I learned the other day that the most dangerous thing on the road is a Nun driving a minivan (another story completely). If you think about it, the plate said "X-Hippie", so they upgraded to the minivan. :D

But VW vans are still around. How many Dodge Caravans do you think will be around in 40-50 years???

    Ahhhh....
Why not? I could sleep way in the back, that way I wouldn't need to pay for a room at the Fontana. :D

Whilst in Africa, and in the service, in the early '70s along with our Mini's and Ducati's and Moto Guzzi's we had as our common use vehicle (re. party vehicle and motocross vehicle) an orange VW bus.

But I can't remember the year.

I do remember that the front windshield was actually 2 windows and that they were hinged on the top so you could open them to, um, well, to, well, so you could like allow different air in. Yeah. Different air. Whew.

    :)

My son-in-law drove a late 60's VW bus over the Dragon years ago, chasing the Gratefull Dead around:Thumbsup:.

My first car was a 58 VW bug, nice little old lady paid me to take it away:D
