In another thread, I mentioned perhaps a M7 Extreme Scoop as an up-coming birthday present. However, Chuck suggested a pulley........ as well. I remember when Randy used to travel around doing pulley parties back in the day. I see that Way has a "package": pulley, belt, plugs and tensioner stop. Have you had experience with this "package"? Where did you source the puller and the belt tool? .....Les
A pulley would def. be better bang for the buck. We do loan the puller free of charge with purchase of our pulley.
Pulley is the first and best power adder for the SC'ed cars... do not pass go, do not collect $200... untill after you have a pulley. Matt
A pulley is the first thing you would add........Right? Question what is a "SC'd" car? I have a 2003 MCS that is bone stock is a pulley the first upgrade you would recommend Thanks
LOL don't worry about the abbreviation they are made up as people go along. I can't keep up with them? SC = Super Charged Heck most of the MCS drivers don't even know what my plate means? LOL
+1 on the pulley. I still need to do that. I need to get in touch with Way about his pulley package minus the tensioner stop since I already have a Detroit Tuned.
Randy did my pulley swap over 4 years ago, and still going great. I went 15% based upon research I had done for reliability. It is definateoy the biggest bang for the buck. Then I would go Cold Air Intake and Cat Back exhaust.
So I'm sure this has been asked before, but is there a 'better' pulley to get? I was looking on someone's website, may have been way motor works, and they had a couple different options...I remember the M7, I think one said WMW, and then there was another one (Craven?) that was a two-piece pulley that said something like it was self-centering and it didn't need to be pressed on? I'm afraid of doing the work myself because I don't trust myself to install something that will be spinning ridiculously fast with enough precision...I'll strive for perfection but won't get it and then I'll get all mad and say "eff it" and then it will break and I will be all assed out. Suggestions? The sooner I figure out which one to buy and where to get it installed, the sooner I can race that CHP officer I always see on the freeway!
There used to be quality differences... but thos are pretty much gone now. So the best answer is to support a shop that you like, or that supports the MINI forum of choice. Way (WMW) has a package with some other bits that are a good idea, but there are lots of pulleys out there to choose from. It's pretty much a commodity part. Matt
I had a Way pulley package put on a customer's car and was impressed. Pulley, plugs, belt, and tensioner stop. I already had a 15% pulley and didn't notice a power difference, just the fact that Way's pacakge comes with everything needed to do it right. - Andrew
Pulley package with a tune is the best bang for the buck. Way has 15% and 17% SS pulleys; M7 has the 16%... all of them are high quality stuff... I'd personally save the 17% for the automatic. 15/16% for the manual. Get it tuned afterwards and make sure your car is in the proper afr
Well, the 15% pulley I think is the way to go. I know there is a lot of controversy about the 15%, 17%, and 19%, but I've heard some horror stories about the 19% pulleys and a few about the 17% pulley as well. That made me go with the 15% pulley myself. Way can hook you up and can give you a quick guide on what to do. It's actually VERY easy. I found the cold air intake (CAI) to be more of a pain in the @ss than the pulley was. The only thing that you should pick up is the belt tensioner tool. This is something that will come in handy for routine maintenance. I've seen them going for $50 used ($100 new). Either way you go, it's a good investment. You'll be VERY happy with the upgrade, and ask yourself "Why didn't I do this BEFORE?!?!?" Way Motor Works is definitely the way to go too. He has the best prices out there, and will help you out with whatever you need. He'll even guide you in the right direction, and away from things you don't need. Give him a call and talk to him about it. That's the best advice I can give you.
