Brian Audet made the most of a second opportunity Sunday in the third GRAND-AM TOTAL Performance Showcase race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend. Dropped from the lead to third with only five laps remaining, the Alexandria, Va., driver recovered to take back the position on the following lap and held it the rest of the way.

Audet prevailed in the No. 35 Urban East Racing Mini Cooper, edging Robbie Davis in the No. 37 Mini of Charleston Mini Cooper by .385 seconds.

"The cars are so evenly matched, if you make the smallest mistake the other cars will get around," Audet said. "But the same thing happened to the other guys, which gave me the opportunity to get back into the top spot. It was great racing."

It was the third consecutive podium finish for Davis, who won the most recent race at New Jersey Motorsports Park after finishing second in the opening round at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Shawn Young went from fourth to first exiting the first turn of the first lap and led the opening nine circuits before being passed by Audet. Young regained the lead on lap 20 – taking Davis with him – but Audet passed both cars on the following lap. Young went on to finish third in the No. 4 Continental Racing Mazda 2.

Pole winner Ed Magner went off course on the first lap as his No. 48 MiniUSA.com Mini Cooper was sandwiched between two other competitors as the racers banged fenders and went four wide at one point. He recovered to finish fifth, posting the fastest lap of the race in the process.

The next TOTAL Performance Showcase event will be at Watkins Glen International on Sunday, July 1, during the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen.
