Ok, so this is getting weird...

Back in May I had some issues with the high speed cooling fan running after the car was shut down to the point of killing the battery. This was intermittent. Possibly unrelated but I think worth mentioning is that the low speed fan resistor was burnt out. Chad - Detroit Tuned fixed that at MOTD.

Fast forward to being back from MOTD. A few times, again intermittently the high speed fan would stick on draining the battery.

Odd thing here but possibly related. One time it was raining, the intermittent wipers would not work. Turn them on, 2 passes and they stopped. Same day the fan stuck on, killed battery.

Diagnosis of Fan issue was relay, it was burnt inside and sticking. Replace relay, all seems right in the world. Intermittent wipers doing fine.

Jump to this past Monday, I leave the house, turn on the intermittent wipers and they again do the 2 pass and stop thing. It did not register in my mind at the time, I had much more pressing issues floating around in my head. Namely outpatient surgery the next day.

Car sits Tuesday and most of Wednesday as I'm a bit out of sorts. Go to get something out of the car last night and the fob not working. Unlock the car and put key in the ignition. It's dead Jim.

So far that is as far as I've progressed. Have to jump the car I think to get it running. Be curious to see if the high speed fan pops on when the jumper cables are hooked up. That will be an indication that this issue has yet to be resolved. Currently have a call into Best Motor Werks to discuss with Anson.

Anyway, wanted to get this down and out of my head even though it is an ongoing thing.

^^^ Could be, we have had loads of rain the past couple of weeks.

Maybe a spray down of electrical components with WD 40 would help??

Check the relay and see if its bad. If it is I would thing water is shorting it out. You may need to seal the fuse/relay box.
Hope the outpatient surgery went well.

Car is running again. Jump start got it going. As soon as the cables were connected the high speed fan started running again. Pulled the relay and started the car.

Ran it over to Best Motor Werks where we dug around looking for water. There was none in under hood fuse block that we could see. However the bundle of wires under the brake booster are wet. Going to give it a few days to dry out.

Also ran by the dealer, MAG, and had a chat with the service manager looking for ideas. He recommended I block off the louvers on that side and see if it happens again next time it rains.

Nathan get some magnetic sign material & when you park slap a piece under the louvers. Easy on easy off.

Maybe your friend Jumpie can get you some magnetic aluminium. :D

    :cornut:God bless..........Prayer sent:Thumbsup:

:cornut:I've seen this treatment cause electrical shorts in and of itself.

    :cornut: Me Too!

:cornut: It's always been my understanding that a 'Garage Queen' (taken from 'Hanger Queen' for constantly broken aircraft) is a car that is constantly breaking and/or side lined with mechanical, electrical, or other difficulties resulting in it constantly being in the 'repair' garage. It does not refer to a car that is garaged by it's owner for protection.

My car spends the night in the garage every night but I drive my car everyday no matter what the weather is.

Rain or Snow MINIs are made to go go GO!
