This code is driving me nuts! 1st thought was that my header was leaking. Replaced the gasket and no dice. Then I replaced the 1st o2 and within a week the light went out . But sadly after a long drive it came back on. I noticed my car has a load of Yo Yo under mid throttle lately. Maybe a bad BPV?
Mine turned out to be a Intake leak, if you have your old rear O2 sensor i would like to talk to you about it... anyways. check your intake for leaks its often the cause. Check the intercooler boots and the duct from the supercharger to the throttle plates.
Not sure if you have a modified header or not, but mine was caused by the the extension bung put in on the rear O2 sensor. I have an RMW road header. After taking the extension out the code went away.
Yea I do have an o2 extension in the rear (Mechanical o2 sim) buts its now removed and code remains. I am starting to think its the BPV as I am getting loads of yo yo and an annoying chirping sound from the intake.
Based on your other indications it could well be something else, but after removing my O2 extension, it actually took nearly 2 weeks for the lamp to go out. I believe the system has to go through so many 'cycles' without the fault to clear the code.
Get a Scan Gauge in order to clear the code, its 169 dollars and can provide up to 4 lit programable gauges for your car. its a good deal ive got one and love it.
2096 is a 'hard' code. It cannot be cleared by Scangauge. It can only be cleared by specialist equipment like the dealer has, or Bavarian Tecnic has a version. Alternatively it will go away on it's own eventually if the fault is corrected.
