Ok I'm a little confused by mainly the different menu structures of various after market web sites ... and for some reason I can't find any references on the MINI USA site.. Does MINI call the engine types by a different name ? The aftermarket sites are all about R53, R55, R56.. etc. I don't see ANY references to a "R" anything on the MINI site ! Even the auto review sites say similar language as {The JCW Clubman sports a 1.6-liter four-cylinder MINI engine} Left Lane ...........Never once mentioning a "R-type"

When I see choices for Clubman on the aftermarket sites and click this or that sometimes it will go to a part description page for a "R55" or "R56" or sometimes BOTH ! So is a 2012 JCW Mini Cooper Clubman a R55 (That's what I thought it was ) or a R56 ? ... And trust me I'm sorry for the moronic question. :blush2:
I'm just a bit confused now.. LOL Thanks !

Answers provided, and such mfr model language is typical of enthusiast forums for other stuff.

BMW sites referring to E36 (aka 3 Series of a certain year span)
Mercedes sites referring to W201 (aka 190 D/E of a certain year span)
    etc.

Around here it is "necessary" to know this. Several times I've been reading a thread, only to realize they are not talking about my car.

It's important to know that the "bones" of the Clubman (R55), things like the powertrain(s), chassis, most of the interior/dash... are the same "generation" as the R56. The difference is mainly behind the front seats...

Oh, I agree...I tend to peruse the "unread" or "recent" post lists, grab one by title, and start answering. Not realizing that it's from some part of the Countryman forum, for example, about which my R56 insight may/may not be particularly helpful.

I had the same experience when I first started hanging around MINI folk and had to sort out all the R-whatever nomenclature, just like my first forays onto the MBZ forums and the W codes (W201, W123, W116, etc.).

Once you know what is what it makes it easier, but as a beginner or outsider factory codes can be pretty confusing.

Thanks for everything guys I got the "R" stuff down now LOL My mistake is I thought the "R" referred to a engine type Like the 8th gen Honda civic engine is K22 and the 9th gen (new of 2012) is the K24.. so That was my error. But thank you everyone for all the help WOW you guys are awesome !
