And here I thought "stealth" was going to be to hide the size. This is de-badging. Interesting other de-badging usually leaves the brand and gits rid of the model here they are going the other way around. Maybe MINI is looking at starting a new sub-brand for bigger cars called Clubman. Just like Hyundai did with Genesis. :cornut:
I'm pretty sure all of the debadging that's included in the so called stealth package are attached with pressure sensitive tape.... A real DIY that won't incur a MINI package price to "Not" add the emblems.... Besides, you will end up with all of the expensive pieces if you DIY it and change your mind later and want to put them back.... Overheard in the sales department.... "Yeah.... I want the groovy "Stealth Package", how much? That would be $250.00.... Cool..... What do I get with the "Stealth Package"????? Sales person.... Ummmm..... Nothing....
Taking a page out of the Porsche playbook. Give them less make it a special package & charge more. BMW is moving MINI upmarket for sure.
BMW has offered this option for a long time in other markets, there is no charge. Still, and easy DIY for most of us. Can't imagine what the take rate would be on this "package".
Yeah, de-model-badging has been around for a long time - I think it started in Germany in the 1970s when, in response to things like the Baader-Meinhof far left militant group that started targetting wealthy businessmen, it became fashionable for wealthy people to have their Mercedes 500s de-badged so they looked more like their employees' Mercedes 200s. De-model-badging has always been available on Minis in the British market, though I suspect it is used more on Mini Ones (sub-Coopers) to disguise their humble status. De-brand-badging is a new idea to me.
A little dental floss can just about debadge the entire car. When I got my WRX it was debadged. When I took it for inspection the guy walked around the car twice then looked at me and said "what is it". I really wanted to tell him it was a car "here's your sign". But it's got good to mess with government types.
