Via our friends at Bridge to Gantry the most famous race track in the world is now for sale. This could be bad or good news depending on who ultimately buys the track out of all the potential suitors. However one thing is for certain. The ‘Ring is changing. And for manufacturers like BMW and [...] (visit MotoringFile for the full article) More...
It has been unofficially for sale for about a year, with interest from real estate developers and even talk of a golf course. There was a movement afloat to convince Audi to buy it. Bottom line: it is the worlds greatest public driving opportunity but not the worlds greatest business model. For those that dream of driving it (myself included), go now, because it won't last.
I've heard/read that they have an open track/lap day bout every weekend. Pay a fee I think it was only $25-$50 and have at it. Down side is someone dies almost weekly!!
I can't decide whether to call this good news or shudder at the thought of Bernie in control of the 'Ring. Ecclestone places bid to buy famed Nurburgring track (nbcsports.com)
Anybody else but him.... Would have been better if some Arab sheikh had stepped up and purchased it...
I bought it, you all get one free lap. Seriously, they built that big shopping botique, the field of dreams concept, and it languished. It'll be tough to sell because of that--that setup obviously failed, and to try and put someone on the hook for that, that's going to be a tough sell.
If they make it 2 for 1 and toss in the Dragon I will put a bid in on both. All that other crap at the Ring needs to be knocked down.
May come as a surprise to some considering my past and present opinions of Bernie...but, Bernie may actually be the one person with the money and racing clout to succeed in saving this place and returning it to at least some of it's former glory.. Besides, I'm sick of towel heads buying everything.
From motorsports.com: Jan.16 (GMM) Bernie Ecclestone looks set for a challenging 2014, as German prosecutors prepare to send him to court to face criminal bribery charges. Sky News' authoritative city editor Mark Kleinman claims the announcement could be made as early as Thursday, as the F1 chief executive's long-running woes surrounding the Gerhard Gribkowsky corruption affair reach their zenith. When asked if Ecclestone's latest troubles would finally prevent the 83-year-old billionaire from performing his duties, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said: "It all depends on the outcome. "Bernie is absolutely the best and only guy to do what he does, to take Formula One to the global reach that the sport has achieved," he told reporters in London, according to the Bloomberg news agency. "It's in all our interests that he's around as long as possible," the Associated Press quoted Horner as adding. But even amid Ecclestone's troubles, it is also clear this week that the diminutive Briton is still pulling strings. He told the Handelsblatt and Wirtschaftswoche publications that he has made a bid to buy the fabled yet troubled German Grand Prix venue the Nurburgring. "We want to make sure there is a Formula One race in Germany every year in the future," said Ecclestone. "There are one or two other interested parties, but we will only pay what we believe the Nurburgring is worth. "We believe we can do more for the track than anyone else," he added. PS: Wonder if Horner's lip impressions on Bernie's buttocks are permanent....
Welcome to the world famous Berniering, please stop at BernieWorld after you take a couple of laps on the Bernieschleife in our new Infiniti taxi driven by Seb Vettel and managed by Christian Horner (needs to pay back a favor or two).
Once he looses his bribery case in Germany, I wonder if he still goes through with the purchase.... Smells funny.... Oh.... It was a payment, not a bribe.... Lost in the translation I bet....
You think there is anything but the purest of altruistic thoughts going through Bernie's head in regards to this potential purchase? :eek6:
Damn. The MA bid for it fell through. I thought we had it. Rumor has it the thought of the F56 lapping the ring was too much for the seller.
That is your spin? Truth be told the M/A bid fell short as your contribution check for $1.29 that would of beat all the other bids and had M/A as the new owner, bounced. :incazzato:
