Just as an addendum: Many track events groups will have new drivers go out in a Lead and Follow session for their first track session.

An instructor will lead a pack of cars (typically 5-8) and for one lap the front student car will follow the instructor car as closely as possible for a lap. The instructor will typically only run 75% of speed for the track.

The rest of of the pack will follow as reasonably closely as they can. After one lap the lead student car rotates to the back of the pack and the next in line follows the instructor car as closely as possible. This continues for a full session on track until each member of the pack has done the lead and follow right behind the lead driver.

Afterwards there is a drivers meeting of the novices/new to the track drivers that were in the lead and follow group to discuss what they saw to better solidify things like track out points and apex points.
