I had a new 2005 PW/PW Cooper way back when and have been craving a super fun car again, after a brief stint of urban carless living and then going economical (read: boring) and living the past six years with a Jetta SE. My original Cooper was the car that convinced me to learn manual transmission and I've been a convert ever since. So it's time to come back to MINI. This time I'm looking for a new or low mileage used 2014-2015 MCS. Oddly there are still a few 2014 MCS classified as new at some East Coast MINI dealerships. Can anyone point me to a list of potential changes or updates that a 2015 would have that a 2014 MCS may not? I've poked around and can't find any answers to that question. I've test driven the 2015 and wondered if there were stark differences between that and the prior model year. Any information would be greatly appreciated!
Highly doubt that there have been any changes. Most likely they are still uncovering things that will need to be fixed for the LCI of these 3rd Gen MINIs.
VWs are great cars. I put them up there as a driver's car along with MINI. I have one of each There have been a lot of changes between these model years. 2006-2007 had some pretty large changes, and 2014-2015 also saw some pretty large changes -- if you are looking specifically at a Cooper (R53/R56/F56). I think a test drive is your best route. See what you like, and go from there.
ah -- as a R53 to R55 owner, I may have my years off. I had in my head that the first year of the F56 was 2015.
On the F56 the front end design is a collaboration of Hoover and Dyson. I have heard some good things about them, but have no first hand experience. Welcome back to the insanity.
I believe that were some changes in option package content but should not be problem when buying off the lot.
Welcome to M/A! 2014 was first year for F56 so more bugs in them I'd say. Have a friend that bought one and had a problem with the AC drain that folded the interior, they new about it and a shite load of parts where changed, carpet electronics but really started acting up. Had MINI USA exchange for a 2015. So far so good.
Yeah, I would never buy a first year of any vehicle.... The first adopters are always the guinea pigs... Everyone else benefits by waiting a little while longer....
Welcome aboard! Like some others, I've not had good luck with first year production cars. (Even rock solid Lexus was less than proper.) Test driving several is also my advise, as you want to be comfortable with all the different choices available in the MINI world.
If you loved your old Supercharged R53 you may want to find a used one to replace it. The NEW MINI's are not like your old one. Take a trip to you local dealership and go for a few test drives between the R56 & the new catfish F56.
