Blimey is 7 1/2 years and just shy of 150k miles old. He has been driven like he was stolen, nearly every mile of that 149k. A significant portion of those miles included a horizontal vector component, not recorded by the odometer.

He's been my trusted, beloved daily driver that entire time. He's only let me down three times - once after hitting a box that fell off a truck in front of us (not his fault), once when a faulty dyno overloaded one axle and caused the CV to overheat and vomit grease (the dyno's fault), and once when his @!#$% crank pulley failed (some German engineer's fault). Otherwise, other than the typical drips and wear item replacement, he has been outstanding.

I want my buddy to last FOREVER. So, yesterday, he retired from daily driver service. I cleared out space in my workshop garage bay so he can relax out of the weather. He'll still see asphalt on days when the sky and temps are perfect for top-down motoring, when work takes me near twisties, and when the Dragon calls.

In his stead, I'll be daily driving a 2011 Jet Black BMW E90 328i, with Oyster leather, Nav, Premium, Xenons (CPO, like new, with only 26,000 miles!). And that 3.0L inline 6 is sweeeeeet. OMG. But it ain't Blimey. :D

As long as you bring it to the Dragon all is good.

My car is now sitting in the garage for weeks at a time now. Only because I work from home and don't have to commute any longer. I miss the morning drives on the twisty back roads of PA and the fun of taking the long way home after work. I don't miss filling up with 93 all the time and running to the speed shop to pick up Meth.

As I see it she deserves the rest because she has treaded me well over the years and she will always get a Dragon vacation every Spring to stretch her legs and burn up some tires and remember the glory years. She will always be willing to show the newer generations how fast the old girl can go and not miss a beat.
