A couple of decades after he played a NASCAR racer in "Days of Thunder," Hollywood trade newspaper "Variety" reports that actor Tom Cruise is set to get back behind the wheel on the big screen to play the legendary Carroll Shelby in "Go Like Hell." Although Variety says the production has not been given the green light from 20th Century Fox, the film would be directed by Joseph Kosinski and be based on the 2009 book "Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari and their Battle For Speed and Glory at Le Mans" by A.J. Baime, which relates the story of the grudge match at Le Mans in the 1960s Ford and Ferrari, which followed Henry Ford II's unsuccessful attempt to purchase the Italian marque. Shelby was a key player on the Ford side in that fight, and was interviewed by Baime extensively for the book. Variety tips production to start next year pending final approval, with a theatrical release anticipated sometime in 2015. You'd think they'd find an actor with a higher level of character than Cruise. Kind of a kick in the balls for Carroll and his family...
Might as well have gotten Danny DeVito. They are about the same height. No where near as tall as Shelby. He will be standing on a box the whole movie.
Danny DeVito was not available because he is booked for the new Wilt Chamberlain movie. Yup he is playing Wilt.
Yes, Tom is a little nutty outside of the stage. It's hard to deny that he is an exceptional actor though.
As a Shelby fan I look forward to seeing the movie regardless of who is acting in it... Granted I'd of thought they would have gotten someone who was alittle gritty/gruff to play the part.. Hoping for the best though.
True Tom has done some good roles, but a fairly tall lanky Texan he is not....Don' t care how high his heels and how bad his Hollywoo accent will be....:sly: But do look forward to the story being told on the big screen!!
I think Cruise is a good actor, his personal life is something else. I think if you looked at most of these famous people's lives you probably wouldn't really care for them either. I don't know about playing Mr Shelby, don't see it, that would probably have to be his best performance to date, but thats what actors get paid for. I guess the question would be who could play Mr. Shelby? If Clint Eastwood was a little younger he would be my first choice. Harrison Ford would have been a good candidate too. I don't know about whats out there now though.
