Hi I need advance I recently drove over a pot hole and as a result had a flat the TPMS light went on, I replaced the tire and tried to reset my light. BUT for some reason it doesnt respond. I took into the dealer they said they will need to replace the sensor but its going to cost me a leg and arm. Is it really difficult changing out the sensors yourself??? I saw some videos on youtube didnt look to hard but the guy was a pro and im not. Thanks for your help
Replacing a TPMS sensor is simple once the tire is removed from the wheel. You can purchase a replacement sensor from Outmotoring in the sponsors section of MA.
What year is your MINI. There are differences between the 1st Gen and 2nd Gen MINIs read tire pressures.
No TPMS sensor in the '06. I believe it uses the ABS system to count tire rotation. Should just be a matter of resetting it with the TPMS Button: "Hold the button down for about 5 sec, then drive - the system will re-learn the new pressures (actually, it's learning the diameter since it works off of the ABS sensors) and off you go.... Being a 2006 then yes, there is not a TPMS sensor in tire. The ABS sensor reads the number of revolutions and compares that to other tires. A tire low on air will spin just a tiny bit faster. The reset is not difficult. Hold down the reset button located in the center console near the base of the emergency brake when you start the car for five seconds, then drive, it resets after you drive.
Possible that a good healthy whack to the wheel killed the ABS sensor. Did one in on my MINI that way. Twin Creek road ate my ABS sensor.
thank you im going to replace the ABS sensor. quick question if i did wreck the sensor, would I be able to reset? tried resetting this morning without changing anything and no connection was made when i held the button down.
Yes Denise you will be able to reset the sensor once the bad one is replaced. You may have to go to the dealer & have them read which sensor is bad. I'd guess it is the wheel you flattened, but that is just a guess. Find out which one it is for sure before buying parts. Good luck with the repair. Let us know how it turns out for you.
Welcome to M/A Denise. Lots of good helpful people here willing to help a fellow MINI owner. :cornut:
You are in good hands on this site with a lot of people that like to help other Mini owners out. I am not 100% sure how your tried to reset the light in your 2006 but when I reset mine I start the car hold down the button for 30 seconds or so. * Note nothing happens on the dash to tell you it's resetting. Then I turn off the car and restart it again and the light is off. You may also want to check your other tires as one of them may also be down a few pounds of air causing the light since the one tire was just replaced. I would try all of the above before buying any parts. Good luck
