I had my car in for service last week, which included updating some software (the passenger side auto-up had stopped working.) So when I get in it this AM I notice that the low tire light, the orange one in the speedo, is on. Usually, if one tire is REALLY low, this also causes a red "Low Tire" warning light to come on inside the digital display in the tach. This usually results in the fun game of "pull out the tire gauge and figure out which tire is low." However, today, I got the orange light, but instead of just getting the accompanying red idiot light on the tach, I got a picture of the car which showed me which tire was low. Pretty neat! I guess maybe this is something they're rolling out on the '11s that I just got lucky and picked up early?
what would be real nice would be reporting tire pressure in PSI. Lots of cars do this, but I guess that degree of knowledge isn't deemed to be appropriate for MINI drivers.... Kind of like engine temp! But it's a nice improvement, none the less. Matt
Based on how correct the other gauges are, I'll bet this one means that tire is OK and the others are low. Jim
Yeah...... So did anything really improve? When my TPS light would come on, I would take the air hose around and check and fill up each tire anyway. So with the software up grade, if it only shows the low tire, it gets filled, right. So then you get in the MINI reset the warning light and take off. Only to find out after going around the block, the next low tire shows up as being low. And so on and so forth. So does the software change show all the low tires, or just the lowest?
Absolutely! Even if it doesn't handle multiple low tires (maybe it does), it sure does improve for a single low tire (by far more common than multiple tires suddenly reading low at the same time). But as you say, if one tire goes low it's always a good idea to check all tires anyway.
Hah.... I was hopeful you would go out and let varying amounts of air out of all 4 of your tires and tell us more arrows showed up. Here in the snow belt, with big temperature swings, all the tires need a fill up of air when the seasons change. But yes, if one tire gets a nail, it's an improvement to know which one is low.
Well, I'm headed to the track this weekend, and the track wheels don't have sensors, so I'll see if all 4 light up..
