I have someone in Ireland interested in a car part I am selling. They have said no problem to paying with Paypal and paying the shipping cost to Ireland. Today they say they do not want the value placed on it and want it sent as gift. This sounds weird to me, what if they try to say they never got the item? are they able to get their money back even though it was sent as gift ? and I know I am screwed for recovering anything because I would have sent the item as gift right? unless I sent it insured which would then place a value on it. Do you think they are trying to jack me ?

If you send it as a gift you have no recourse....

#1 You don't know this person... Correct?
#4 If it has value, you should claim it as such...
#3 If it has no value or very little.... Gift it...
    #8 Buyer beware....
    #12 Seller beware...
#15 I think you are being set up....
#7 It will eat into when you when you get ripped....
#2 Post up how it turned out for you...
    #1 Good luck with sale.....

Don't know him. Just told him I would ship it fully insured with signature proof of delivery and that I would not be gifting it. I will let you know the response.

I bet he is trying to get around some kind of tax. But I would not do it as a gift either.

Get his money first, unconditionally without recourse if he doesn't receive it. If he goes for that, send the part to him as soon as you have cash in your pocket.

Gifting gets away from taxes and in some cases custom duty/inspections.

Heh, reminds me of the P-P-P-Powerbook!

    P-P-P-Powerbook! | Know Your Meme

Briefly, someone in England wanted to buy a Powerbook from someone in the US (this is from 2004) and the deal sounded shady, so he scammed the scammer.
