    Hey guys,

I need help figuring out what the part is. It is part of the intake system on factory S models. There is the factory air box then 2 hoses come off of it. One to the throttle body and the other funnels around to a slit in the front rubber seal guard above the radiator. I just found a purchased the baffle piece or whatever its called that routes from that to the box. But there is a second piece that goes from the rectangular shape to the circle shape and I canot find that anywhere!

:cornut: From your description, it sounds like you're talking about an R53 as the R56's throttle body is incorporated into the head. My having an R56, I'm no help but if you go to 'RealOEM' on line, you'll find diagrams and names. I hope that this helps.

As much as I try to memorize what everyone drives I'm not that good.

What year is your MINI please.

This is where having a Garage is helpful, any of us could just take a look at the Garage and see what year you are asking about.

The r56 throttle is bolted to the intake manifold not the head. I believe the piece he is looking for is the plastic adapter on the core support to which the intake hose attaches to. Unfortunately I'm not sure what it is called

It sounds like the noise canceling tube that goes to the bottom of the air box, just guessing.

    Can you take some pictures?
Maybe post a few pictures of the area you are working on?

    It's an '03 MCS.

Trust us, given all the work you're doing on your car, you need to get to know realoem.com. Click through the diagrams until you find what you're looking for and then if the part names biz isn't helpful you can always post a link here and ask things like "what is #5 in this diagram?" or "what does it do?" We love that game. :D

    Thanks everyone!
Mines actually an 02 says the title. I guess it was just purchased in 03 new.
    Its the R53 MCS

This is the piece I ordered but it attaches to the front end up the car just above the radiator. It was entirely missing on mine and after some research and youtube videos I found out it even existed.

Here I circled it in yellow. I don't really know what category this is under. I go to engine then intake manifold but its just the manifold not the intake itself.

Most of us call that "the snorkel"

It's the primary air intake duct, that feeds cool air to the air box.

I'm pretty sure the little chamber on the bottom is a resonance chamber to quieten the throttle whistle or other noise someone found undesirable at some point in development.

Ok I dont know if this will help.
The part in the picture(the thing-a-mudo) takes cold air in from the opening above the radiator(the watch-a-macallit) and goes to the air box(the Thing-a-mageg). It looks like you do not have the air box any more. I am not at home or I would post a photo, sorry. :D
The nice thing about the air box is you can isolate the air filter from the engine bay. That way it gets cooler air. On mine I cut out the back of the air box so it gets lots of cold air from the vent in front of the windshield on the left side. Also the side affect of cutting the air box is you really hear the SC wine. :arf:
The sound doesn't make it faster but its music to my ears.
I can post photos tomorrow afternoon when I get home if you need.

Yup... A Helmholtz resonator.... Wonderful little discovery...
They can be built into exhaust systems as well to get rid of droning...

    DON"T FEAR THE DRONE....

Are you talking about this piece (disregard the red circle, and the part is pictured upside down).... This is the plastic duct that brings cold air from the front grill to the airbox with your filter. The red circled part is a water trap and the other appendage is a helmholtz resonator....

Thanks Metal, I learned something new today.
If I had a german shepherd, I'd name him Helmholtz.
