It looks like we have been getting a number of new people so I thought it would be a good idea to start this. I'll come back in a tally the results now and then to make it easy to see what people are running. I'm running Yokohama A539 tires in size 165/60 R12 on my Mini. Oh, and on my MINI I'm running Yokohama YK580 215/45 R17 tires on the original S-lite wheels. After the car's original runflats wore out, I happily made the switch to non-runflat conventional tires of various brands for the past decade. And I've had no punctures since (knock on wood). I think these YK580 tires are a good all-around solution for the MINI. They are not an all-out performance tire, but they handle well, they are good in the wet, and they are not noisy. I'm happy with them.
Nitto 01 or Toyo RA1 225/45/15 8 inch wide rims in rear, 9 inch wides up front, track. 8mm spacer in rear, 15 mm up front, I think the ET on the 949UL is roughly +35. 16 inch for the street, rota slipstreams, et +36 ish, no spacers. Falken Azeni's.
Michelin Premier A/S 205/45/17 Not exactly a performance tire, but I gotta cart my kiddos around. Haven't tried them in the rain yet (yay, California drought!)...but I'm counting on them being much better than the run flats I just got rid of.
I ran 205-50-16 Yokohama S Drives on my now gone R53. For me they were the perfect size. Your mileage may vary.
Summer: 215/40R17 Yoko Advan AD08R Old winter setup: 215/45R17 Yoko Iceguard IG52c (for sale, actually).
Michelin PSS 205/45/17 Excellent, but pricey. Also, they're slightly larger than the 205/45/17 Hankook Ventus V12 EVO's I replaced... or maybe the Hankooks are a little undersized?? I know there are variations between brands, but I'm not sure which one is more accurate.
I like the idea of this, which is why I also wish everyone would build a "My Garage" and post that kind of info along with other mods done so people could just click peoples "My Garage" button and see all that info...
Summers are 205/45/17 Continental ExtremeContact DW (not the DWS) Winters are General Altimax Artics in 215/45/17
205/50/16 Conti DW on SSR GT-1 16x7 ET 42 wheels for summer, spring and fall. 185/65/15 Michelin X-ice on stock 15x5.5 holies in the winter.
Tires: 215/40-18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports Wheels: OEM GP 18x7" ET 52mm with 15mm spacers (adjusted ET 37mm)
Winter: Bridgestone Blizzaks 205/45/17 Summer: Michelin Pilot Super Sports 215/45/17 All-Season: Yokohama YK580 - I no longer use an all-season tire but I really liked these. Brucek touched on it; they are not an all out performance tire but they are excellent in the wet and very very good in the snow for all-season.
All-Season: Bought the car with new 195/55 r16 conti extreme contact ssr's. They didn't last long, terrible snow traction with a harsh ride. (I did benefit from the run flat technology on one occasion, though it ruined the tire....) Went to a 195/55 r16 Yokohoma YK580. Good quiet tire, better fuel mileage, long lasting, with good dry and good snow traction. I found that the wet traction was just okay. I ended up having them siped which greatly improved the wet traction. Getting 205/50 r16 Conti DWS06's installed this evening. I will have to report back regarding their performance. All three sets of tires are on factory r84 x-lite rims (16" x 6.5").
On my fourth set of 215/45-17 Michelin Pilot Super Sports on OEM wheels. Gotta love the tread wear warranty
