I am a "tool freak" and just feel down right naked if I do not have tools with me at all times.

Going from a truck to a MINI has put a sever cramp is my "tool" style. I now have limited myself to a 14"x 9"x 7.5" bag.

What would you add and what would you ditch?

I do always have a tool bag about the same size as yours in my car, but it has small hand woodworking tools, screw gun, and sometimes a jigsaw, or a router. Being a stagehand/props builder/scenic carpenter, I always have gaff tape, which I can fix most anything with:cornut:.

Here is my latest tool purchase that I carry in my MINI. It's a lighted swivel telescopic mirror with a built in light.

I take a similar set of tools to the track, but I do a few things differently.

    -allen/torx sockets instead of wrenches
-10, 13, & 17mm combination wrenches - you won't need any other sizes for roadside repairs
-just a 1/2" torque wrench - no sense using a 3/8" wrench 'cause it's all just turn till snug, then a tad bit more for extra snug. Besides, without a Bentley manual how are you going to know what to torque to?

I'm with Bthayer, in fact I don't even take the torque wrench, just a long breaker bar with the right socket on it - I can tell whether they're tight or loose.......

It's nice to have a good set of tools with you, but nowadays with cell phones and a Wal Mart or auto parts store around every corner, I figure I can buy whatever I need if I'm going to do major repairs.

Only once has this happened. I was on vacation with my 2 young kids and had borrowed the folk's Olds Cutlass. We were about 100 miles from home when the water pump died, we were on a lonely country road and the lady at the farmhouse wasn't anxious to let me in to use the phone but she finally did. I called my dad and he brought a new pump, some coolant, a couple rags and a few tools and I changed it right there on the side of the road. It was not easy with only a crescent wrench and a pair of pliers and it had to have been 110* that day (California's central valley in summer)!
