So I'm creating a list things I'm thinking about doing to the GP2. I'm considering painting them so I went searching and figured I would create a thread on wheel arches so we can see all the different options, really clean factory, painted factory, wide body? Thoughts.

Since I'm looking to potentially do this for the GP2, I was trying to find a GP2 that had done it. Haven't found one yet, but I did find this one in Grey. Think it looks pretty good. Its straight body color.

So is this one.. In some ways I like the grey on grey. The red one below I also think looks really good. But something in the back of my mind almost wonders if a different color (or even really clean factory) looks as good. That said, the red one is really good looking and super clean.

Some colors it looks ok in but I prefer the black wheel arches. The gray does look good though

Yea I need to do some photoshop work and play with it. My arches are just Greyish plastic. I was thinking about seeing how much a used set is, paint those (once I figure out a color). That way I have originals. Been looking to see if I could find a GP2 with painted arches. Not sure if I would body match or potentially do a different color..

Clean the arches off with acetone to get any grease off of them then put a couple of coats of Penetrol on them. They will look like new for about a year. Nothing sticks to them. This is a Dave.0 trick. I do it to all out Minis.

Ok - now that is interesting. I will have to look that up and give it a shot.

Here are some more pics of other cars with fenders painted.

Again - silver/Gray seems to look good.

Another two tone... with a very wide body kit.

The wide body kit looks good on the green car but the red one is way too big.

That's a WIDE body kit for sure.. Looks aside the problem with a kit that wide is either you have to put a very large set of wheels under there (weight), spacers.. Neither are ideal unless you have a lot of power to push the wheels.

The red one is a highly modified and high powered Track car. You need that wide when you run 16x10 wheels.

Hold on doing body colored fender arches until we chat at the Dragon. I have a few ideas for you.

My opinion is they should stay black as they are a nice line of sharp contrast between body color and the the tire / rim combo.

Will do - Don't plan on making any of those changes until after MOTD. Hoping I can get the carbon fiber bits that are no longer good updated before MOTD. No matter what I won't paint the originals. If I were to go down that path, I would paint a second set (used). That said I'm going to try the trick @MCS02 mentioned.. which is your trick on them, unless you suggest I wait on that until MOTD.

I've had two R53s and they both had painted arches. The second and third generation cars don't look right with em, though. Here isn't enough contrasting shape to the arches and the seam over the front wheels looks odd to me.

The pic of the dark silver at the top of this thread is the first one I've seen that looked Ok to me.

Don’t use my Penetrol trick yet. I will bring something better to the Dragon for your trim.
