A mechanic cleaned up the pin in the petrol float for me and advised that I get a replacement pin or even a carb kit pretty quickly. I'm only just starting to learn about engines and have very limited knowledge so far, so was wondering what the best and hopefully cheapest website was to get one?? I'll be buying a Haynes manual soon and I'm trying to find videos online to teach me about the engine to no avail yet...any help at all would be greatly appreciated
You can try The Roadster Factory in Armagh Pa, they mainly do Triumph and MG parts but have lots of SU stuff.
Minimal-motoring.com do quite well on prices if they have it in stock. Seven Enterprises ( Classic Mini Cooper parts and services since 1974 ), Minimania.com, and GBcarparts.com are also big classic mini spares sources. Moss Motoring also do parts, especially any that overlap with spridgets and other British classics.
Seven Enterprises is good as I've gotten many parts from them. I avoid mania as every part I got from them didn't fit right, or didn't work. Mini Sport out of the UK has good stuff too.
Your other post said you live in the Midlands. If you're in the UK, then you're spoilt for choice compared to us poor SOBs over here in the States. A better list for you would probably start with MiniSport.com, followed by Minispares.com, and Huddersfield spares ( minispares-online.co.uk ). You're practically on top of one of the best a-series performance builders in the world, MED Engineering You might find more local knowledge on a closer based site ( The Mini Forum - Your online guide to everything Mini ), but please stick around here as well, since we all love to hear about minis, no matter where they tread...
A friend of mine has SU carbs in his Datsun 510. I suggest you check out other vintage cars that might use SU carburetors.
