Thanks for sharing that. I was at Watkins Glen in '78 and saw Carlos Reutemann win in the Ferrari. :biggrin5:
Graduated College... Driv'n my '71 BMW 2002, looking forward to my Fire Service career. Wished I could do it all over again! (wished I still had the Beemer too)
Senior in High school & worked at the local VW dealership. That might not have been the grand ol' days of F1, but there were some pretty cool cars then!
Can't remember because it was so long ago or because of what you were doing? I was 5, so I was waiting anxiously for Santa to bring me a new bike.
Watkins Glen '78, the rest of the story... 5 guys all camping out of one Toyota Landcruiser wagon pulling a small Shasta travel trailer after a 5 hour drive from MD Saturday night bog is in utter mayhem meltdown...cars, trucks, campers, in no particular order but burned to frame and ashes and we're 5 spectators on the perimeter. Then in only a moment we lost our driver, Wade the landcruiser and trailer owner and keeper of the keys. We trekked back and forth twice from bog to campsite and no sign of Wade...after two hours we headed to the makeshift Sheriff's Barnyard Compound just down the 'road' from our campsite to enter his name onto the arrest list to see what could come up! Meanwhile a van backs out of the barnyard compound and I suddenly realize it's Wade sitting back row center and they're not singing camp songs...the van pulls 20 yds down the dusty road and the other law officer in the van jumped out and announced that the contents of the van were being transported to the Courthouse in downtown Watkins Glen, NY. We have no key to the landcruiser, we've all been drinking all day and the key to our transport arrived at the Courthouse in downtown Watkins Glen after midnight...long story short we all arrived back at the circuit in the landcruiser on Sunday at about 5am, watched Wade down at least three swigs of JD without breathing and hit the hay for a brief nap before the GP. Sunday was damp, Andretti's Lotus faltered and Ferrari won...good times indeed!
Starting my first year living at a prep school in central PA. Going to Dead Shows and experimenting with all kinds of mind altering methods. This was before I found cars, racing and all the fun that can be had with them.
