Hi all, Found my way here as I was looking for instructions on how to change my crank pulley. Owned my R53 MCS since September 25th 2002, so it is now just over 13 years old. I am just about to add a few mods, hence why I am looking around on this site. Have already fitted a Milltek exhaust, K&N filter, Airtec intercooler and Brembo brakes. Have purchased an Alta 17% reduced supercharger pulley and 2% enlarged crank, which will both go on soon, I hope. Also fitting an MSD coil pack, new HT leads and iridium plugs.
Stay with the OEM coil pack. MSD does not have a quality reputation. AND...welcome to the modness...it's addicting.
Welcome! Lose the MSD coil (when it fails it can cause some major problems). And you are pushing the limits of heat created by the SC with the 17% and 2%. As long as you have a tune and don't spend anytime above about 6500 rpm it is probably maintainable. That IC looks very nice.....have to do some research on that one.

Welcome to MA! I have a 17% pulley. I have had my pulley for several years now. I leave in the south where it's nice and hot. I can't remember the delta on the intake heat rise but it is very high. Unless you are going with a better IC or meth and maybe bigger injectors along with a tune I don't think I would go past 17%. With that crank pulley you will be at 19% I know years ago when I researched it 19 could cause problems with the water pump along with too much heat. Good to see a new member that's been a longtime mini owner. Nice looking R53.
It's best to listen to the group on this and don't install that 2% crank pulley with the 17% SC pulley. It's best to install an original sized ATI or PRW damper. (I prefer the PRW fluid filled damper - no maintenance.)

Welcome. I tend to disagree that the OEM coil is best. The terminals on the OEM coil tend to corrode. I do agree to stay away from the MSD coil because it does not fit correctly without special screws. I suggest a coil with copper terminals such as the Screamin-Demon or Beru. I like NGK plugs. I OEM plug wires are fine but I like a little color on the wires to add a little bling. Since you plan to do plugs, wires, and coil here are a few good kits. Welcome! Like you, I'm relatively new here and I have also been the owner of the same MINI for over 13 years now.
Thanks for the comments about the MSD. Unfortunately I had already fitted it before I read all of the above. And unfortunately I had overtightened the supplied bolts and cracked the head beneath. Now I know why the BMW coil pack has a sheaf around each of the screws, presumably to stop them travelling down too far!
