I bought my MINI this past January. In the 5 months I've owned it I've hit 5,000 miles. I feel 10,000 miles is too long to go between oil changes so I went to the dealership today for an oil change and told the write-up man that this was on me as I hadn't hit 10,000 mile or one year ownership. He went into the computer and said: nope, this is on us. He explained it was not one year from 'date of purchase' but rather one year from the 'build date' that applies. I was pleasantly surprise (I'll just end up paying at another time) but I thought there might be a few of you out there that weren't aware of that.
I would do my own at 5K and the dealer at the second 5K........ This put the MINI at a fresh filter and oil every 5K miles..... Castrol 100% synthetic and a oem oil filter...
Nice of your dealer to do the right thing. When my changes were on MINI's dime I did the 5,000 mile change myself. Mobile 1 0w40 with an oem or Mann filter. The MINI is not too very hard to change the oil on. Heck even an old fart like me can do it.
I know..... That's sad.... I don't turn wenches anymore either.... Ever since I've been married I've had to stop doing that...
I only drive 5000 miles a year. I just change the oil on the date I got my MINI. Next year will be the first time I change the oil rather than the dealer. MINI brand oil, with my MINI club discount is the same as Mobil One at the auto parts store. Dave
Me too... I also change my oil every 2000 miles in my MINI. It keeps any pesky abrasive particles flushed out.
Oh goodness no! I wont even let those hacks look at my car. The fiance gives me **** because I wont go to Monroe for their $20 oil change. I told her its because I dont trust those wanna be grease monkeys to touch my car and do it right. Then she whines because I wont change the oil on her Toyota, at least she did until I took her to the autoparts store and showed her how much it actually costs to do an oil change. She sticks with her $20 oil change.
I only go to the dealer to see the Parts guys. Sometimes the best part is the OEM part. Filter, O2 sensor, MAP & TMAP sensors, Wheel bearings, Coils, Trim pieces. *Oh and I get a HUGE discount.
