Have you tried reseting the ECM?
I changed the key, crank sensor and now the fault is gone. No popping at 3000. ! I knew it wasn't the pulley :D
It did but it didn't fix it. Maybe it just changed the load on the engine enough for the ECM to notice.
Alternatively: the bad fuel gummed up the injectors and valves, the ECM internalized the new fuel-air ratio/ misfire/ knock patterns and continued...
